still having trouble with oe6 address book

I have never seen multiple instances of a named Main Identity. I can only
suppose that when the extra identities were created, and asked for a name,
you repeatedly entered Main Identity for each one.

If this is the case, OE's WAB may just be totally confused.

Never seeing this before, I can only tell you what I believe will fix your
problem, but I am not sure if it will work. You need to do this for each
identity, but since they currently have the same name, you may have to
experiment a bit.

Start with ID#1 and:

File | Identity | Add New Identity. Create a new one and test it. If all is
well, you can import your messages from the old identity.

Repeat for each identity, but make sure you give each a specific name such
as randolindso number one, extra account, and Spare account. (Only
suggestions as long as each name is different).

In my user account when I open Outlook Express/File/Identities/Manage
Identities I find "Main Identity" listed in all three boxes on that page.
And then, when I do the same under my wife's account, I also find "Main
Identity" in all three boxes. Does this mean I've configured our e-mail
accounts incorrectly or does this just mean that the identity of that
particular instance of OE that's open(my user account...or my wife's
account)
is the "Main Identity" for that account?

I'm running xp media center (xp pro sp2), ie 6, with me on an
administrator
account and my wife on a limited account. We like to use oe6 for e-mail
but
when trying to set up her address book for it I get the error msg. about
address book corrupted, etc. which was supposedly caused by kb911567.
I've
tried setting her up as an administrative acct. and the address book
opens
but it's the address book from my admin. acct., not a new address book
specifically for her. When I open her address book in windows explorer,
it
shows two .wab files- administrator.wab and administrator.wab~, same as
my
address book. I suspect my problem has something to do with this since I
presume her .wab files should be specific to her. I've tried the
kb918651,
kb918766 fix to no avail. I've modified the registry to show ie and oe
uninstalled so I could re-install them. That did not work. I think that
if I
could modifiy her .wab files I could get her address book going but I'm
not
quite sure what to do. Any help would be appreciated as I've been
racking my
brain on this for about 2 weeks.

I just read some more M'soft literature about the address book in regards to
the registry settings for WAB....
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/WAB/WAB4/WAB File Name....The data for
this key on my pc is" C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application
Data\Microsoft\Address Book\Administrator.wab". Can someone with OE address
book working correctly compare their registry data to this? Thanks in
advance.

That indicates that you are logged into Windows under the default

And therein may lie the problem.

In her User Profile: Do you find this Registry key?...

HKEY_CURRENT_USER
\Software

\WAB
\WAB4

If not, STOP; If so, is there a DWORD named UseOutlook (NB: no space) and is
its value set to 1 (one)?

If not, STOP; If so, Address Book is configured to share contacts with
Outlook, even if you don't use it (can happen with the install of Office).
Change the value to 0 (zero), Address Book should be available to you and
all should be well. (If that DWORD is not present, don't create it, and
don't alter any other DWORD values.)

Note that any changes (additions, deletions, edits) made while sharing was
enabled will not be available (displayed) in Address Book when sharing is
disabled.
