Hello all. I'm finally upgrading my OS to Windows XP sp2 (Pro) and am
wondering how I can transfer my "Inbox" and "Sent Items" database (dbx) of accumulated emails from Win98. My "Inbox.dbx" is over 47MB, and I don't want to just throw out years of emails that I need to have archived and available for instant recall if the need arises. Can I just simply save the aforementioned dbx files to some folder, install Windows XP and get it all set up, and then copy the dbx folder back in to XP's OE folder? I see no way to Export my files, and this is the only solution I can come up with. I'd really appreciate any input from you folks on this matter....thanks!! Regards, G7 |

Regards, G7 By the way it is unwise to keep may messages in system created folders, better to create some user folders and either move the messages using rules or simply copy the, to user folders, if something does go wrong it is usually corruption in "System" folders, so you reduce the risk this way. Make sure you keep more than one copy of these folders in case you have problems. XP hides the DBX files, to search for them set the hidden option. If you had IE / OE 6 you might be able to just copy the DBX files to the new store after letting OE run to create new ones, you might but it does not always work. That is why I said make sure you always have a spare "Copy" because if you try that method you may end up with a corrupt store or something stupid and they it is all gone. -- Still the best sites for OE details http://www.insideoe.tomsterdam.com/ http://www.oehelp.com/ Charlie |

Backup & Resto
http://www.insideoutlookexpress.com/backup/ http://www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx http://www.oehelp.com/OEBackup/Default.aspx If you are transferring to another PC, and have access to a Windows XP setup CD, or if both computers are running Windows XP, see: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/IE/...pten.mspx#EBAA General Outlook Express advice: Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They will eventually become corrupt. Create your own user defined folders for storing mail and move your mail to them. Empty Deleted Items folder regularly. Keep user created folders under 100MB, and Default folders as empty as is feasible. After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually while working *offline* and do it often. Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed. In Tools | Options | Maintenance: Uncheck Compact messages in background and leave it unchecked. {N/A if running XP/SP2}. Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that eats up CPUs and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A/V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. Clear the Temporary Internet Files often. In IE | Tools | Internet Options | Delete Files button. And check the box to Delete Offline content. -- Bruce Hagen MS MVP - Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Gary Seven" wrote in message ... Hello all.
