In mail rules there are several "conditions" I can select, then I have
several options, one of which is to not download, or to delete from server. But HTML ONLY is not one of them. And about "Read all messages in plain text": There are many legitimate messages, such as newsletters, that have text but have to be read in HTML (Komando, for example). But IE6 will not let me open the HTML attachments. (It used to - don't know what changed. (I'm using ZoneAlarm firewall and AVG Free edition anti-virus). Ken "N. Miller" wrote in message ... Because OE does not filter on HTML messages or part the HTML part of a
message. Never has. It will only look at the text part. Believe me, it's been asked for since OE5.0, I know I asked during the beta. "Ken_B" wrote in message news:4QUog.93683$IZ2.84467@dukeread07... Technically, for POP3 connections that would be impossible. The best it could do is use the TOP 0 command (when available) to download and inspect only an E-mail's headers. Supposedly what you're looking for may be more feasible using IMAP but even then it's hard to imagine how you would be able to filter on HTML content without first downloading it. ; ) Robert Aldwinckle --- |

That's the problem. People want the computer to read the message and not
download it if it has certain characteristics, but how do you read it without downloading it? G I wrote a server side filter when swen came out, but that still had to access the message contents first as well (although it was easy to filter swen). steve "Robert Aldwinckle" wrote in message ... There is a way to get partial information and not the entire message. So
one could download enough to figure out its pure HTML without having to download the entire message. For instance, if one got the first 200 lines one could probably determine much of the header info and also the message type sufficient to provide greater filtering variables than what OE now provides. steve "N. Hello Ken There are only two ways, that I am aware of, to stop HTML or the .gif type spam emails from arriving in your in-box. 1. Use an ISP who do it for you - more and more are getting this software - Brightmail have something to do with it 2. A very long winded method which I read in these groups and which is reported as 'working' - use message rules to block any message that 'does NOT contain the letter "a"' Then work through the alphabet - yes 26 rules!!!!!!!!!!!! I am fortunate to have an ISP that does filter ALL spam including the .gif photo style of spam i.e. stock market and medicines and betting. Once a week I go to my mail box and clear all the crxp out and send genuine messages to my in box. Hope this is of some assistance. I think more pressure should be bought to bear on the ISPs to get their fingers out and provide this service. It appears to me that most are still doing very little to stop, prevent or deter spamming. Rgds Antioch |

Hey, that a-b-c etc thing sounds like a good idea! I might try that.
The spam in question is being sent to email addresses ONLY used on eBay and PayPal. I have no idea how those addresses wound up on spam lists. I have made message rules to delete any mail to those accounts that do not contain the words eBay or PayPal, and that seems to be working. Thanks for all for the replies. Messages from eBay and PayPal contain the email
addresses of buyers and sellers so they can contact one another. "antioch" wrote in message ... "Ken_B" wrote in message news:AOwpg.93778$IZ2.40615@dukeread07...
