Anyone know how to do this?

Please don't just say use a .pst File, as my new pc doesn't seem to offer
that option. If that is the best way, any chance of offering the solution
is step-by-step Idiot's Guide form?

I just got laid off. How do I move my Microsoft Outlook address book at work to my Outlook Express address book at home?


Answer:

Exporting Outlook to Outlook Express--

Well, the answer is easier than it seems, but follow these steps and you should have most of your contact information. I say most as sometimes (esp. if the export doesn't run smoothly), a field or 2 gets lost in translation.

1. Open outlook and click on file/import and export
2. Click on Export to a file/next
3. Click on Comma Separated Values (Windows)/next
4. Select Contacts/next
5. Name the file/next
6. Map Custom Fields if desired and then click finish.

Copy the file to a floppy or e-mail (or whatever) and when you get home, then do the following--

0. Copy the file to a easy to get location (like the desktop)
1. Open Outlook Express and click on file/import/Other address book
2. Click on Text File (Comma Separated Values)/Import
3. Browse to file or type in if you know the exact location/next
4. Select which fields you want imported/finish

Voila, contacts imported.

Sadly, nothing has worked so far; I did manage to save the file as a .csv
file, but my new Outlook Express still rtefuses to accept it as an Import.

Nor wil it accept a .pst Import, and my old Outlook Contacts won't save us a
..wab file either!

I can't believe Microsoft don't have a workround for this as thousands must
be similarly inconvenienced.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for your reply.

Strange you couldn't import a csv file.

For a test I attached a small csv file for you to try.

It consist of onyx three names and they do import into my address book.

Save attachment, test file.csv, to a location in My Documents.

To import into your address book open Outlook Express, choose File | Import
| Other Address Book.

In the Address Book Import Tool dialog window select Text File (Comma
Separated Values), choose Import

In the CSV Import dialog window Browse to and Open the saved attachment,
test file.csv, choose Next, there should be a check mark display for First
Name and Last Name, choose Finish.

Import should have completed.

Open Address Book to confirm.

This should confirm if your Outlook Express can import a csv file.

You can open test file.csv with Notebook to view how a csv file should look.

Thanks for all ypour help, mate.

I am, now, finally sorted, thanks to a combination of help from my big
sister and yourgoodself.

I was trying to save the .csv file to a read-only media, but finally uised a
Linq cable to transfer from my old machine to MY Documents in my new pc, and
it worked from there.

What a relief!
