Moving E-mail Messages

I've recently replaced my old system with a new box. Prior to abandoning the
old computer, I saved all of my old Outlook Express messages and would like
to move them to my new system.

While they are now resident on my new hard drive, and will open up when I
double-click on them, I would like to have all the old folders (IN BOX,
SENT, SAVE, etc.) to appear in my current version of Outlook Express when
it's launched.

How would I go about doing that?

What program is opening your messages when you double-click?
OE uses dbx files, but will not open a dbx file if you click on one dbx
file.
The OE store folder contains a dbx file for every message folder in OE plus
folders.dbx, pop3uidl.dbx, and offline.dbx.
When OE displays the folder list, it uses folders.dbx to show the folders
used in that Identity.
If you open the Inbox folder in OE, OE uses inbox.dbx.
File, Open in OE opens a folder or a message.
It doesn't open a dbx file.

If you corrupt a dbx file by trying to open with another program, you could
lose all messages in that file.

The safest is to have no program associated with dbx files.

Make sure that your old dbx files are not marked Read Only.
Open OE, File, Import, Messages, OE6, Import from an OE Message store,
then browse to your old dbx files.
