Hey wouldnt it be nice if they added a feature in outlook express 6 to alert
you of new emails hmm that would be good.

Strange, my Outlook Express has had that feature for years.

You already get an audio alert and an envelope icon in the SysTray. Want a
phone call too?

Hello freeway,

I see that everyone is telling you that OE has what you looking for,
but no one is telling you how to activate the Option.

Try this and see if works:

In OE, click on Tools/Options/General tab,
have a choice under the Options "Send/Receive Messages"

Good Luck, x@y

And you can change the sound by going to Control Panel | Sounds and setting
the new mail notification.

For more detailed types of notifications, both auditory and visual, see

i know you got a sound and a tray icon but the only way you see that is when
you hit your email button to open outlook express 6 and then it checks it and
lets you know if theres any new mail, what i want to know does it check it
and let you know without you having to open up the program.

Right. OE doesn't do anything when it's not open. Never has, never will.

You can keep it minimized on the task bar and set to check mail every 30
minutes and it will notify you. If you set it to check every five minutes
your email service should cancel you.

"freeway29",

OE has to be open to get e-mail notification. It can be minimized to the
Taskbar, but must be open.

Can an air-conditioner cool you if it is not running? Same thing.

reminds me of the ones that wanted to reply with a message when they were
out of town, but didn't realize they'd need to leave their computer on. G
