OE will not save default identity
 
Running Windows XP Home SP2, using Outlook Express 6.

I have several identities set up and all are working OK, however, when
selecting:
File\Identities\Manage Identities, the 2 entries for
- Use this Identity when starting a program, and
- Use this identity when a program cannot ask you to choose an identity
are constantly set to the wrong identity.

Whenever I set them to the correct identity (Identity Ordinal 1) they always
revert to the previous identity (Identity Ordinal 2).

I have tried manually setting these in the registry to the correct identity
(Identity Ordinal 1) at
- HKCU\Identities Default User ID, and
- HKCU\Identities Start As
yet whenever I select File\Identities\Manage Identities, it resets the
values to the wrong identity (Identity Ordinal 2).

Is there some key that I can change to allow this change to stay
permanently, or could it be some other software (e.g. NIS, NAV, Spyware
Blaster) that is reverting these keys.

How can I fix this?

OE will not save default identity
 
Turn off email scanning in Norton (or just get rid of it) and then check
your account settings to make sure they are correct. Then see if that fixes
the problem.

Is the when starting and cannot ask Identity the Main Identity?
Have you tried creating a new Identity and using it for the when starting
and cannot ask Identity?
You can import the mail from the old Identity.

It is not a specific problem, in that OE is working properly, but I want OE
to remember the correct identity for the two settings:
- use this identity when starting a program
- use this identity when a program cannot ask you to choose
- also to 'highlight' the correct (main) identity in the list of identities,
by default
No matter what I do, OE always revert back to the wrong identity

I have tried creating new identities etc, but this does not help.

OE will not save default identity
 
By Main Identity, I mean the original Identity that OE calls Main Identity.
Are you using the original Identity?
Is the original Identity the one causing the problem?
Have you deleted the problem Identity?

OE will not save default identity
 
Hi,

If one thinks another program is effecting this problem, perhaps use
msconfig to disable all programs in startup, reboot then test.

OE will not save default identity
 
The ortiginal 'main identity' is has been renamed, but is still the 'main
identity' that I want. I have tried deleting and recreating the 'rogue'
identity but no help.
