Compact files ? again

that is the way I tried compacting and that results in an error message after a few minutes.. Hank... ... I tired that and I got the same result, thye won't compact. Transferring all my keepers is too big a job. You may have a corrupted identity. Make a new identity in OE and import all
of your messages from the old identity. After making sure everything works in the new identity you can delete the old identity. Have you tried what I suggested? Highlight one message an then Ctrl+A
