Shortcut addresses?
I have a small list of frequent mail addressees and would like to (a) have them on a
toolbar or (b) have them as shortcuts on the desktop. It seems that windows will not accept a mail address as a shortcut, so how can I make an icon to bring up an email form with the address filled in? rs |

Start a new message with what you want for addresses, then File | Save As an
eml file and save to the Desktop. You may need this patch, which you should download anyway. Patch KB918651: http://tinyurl.com/mx3r2 This patch addresses some of the issues that were caused by KB911567. Address Book problems. Unsent templates appearing as sent. Manually compacting will now reset the registry counter to Zero in WinXP/SP2. To complete the fix for .eml templates, a registry change is needed. See: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918766 Tom Koch also has this information at his site, along with a downloadable Zip file to do the registry change for you. Did you include mailto: in the shortcut?
A sample command line for the short cut would be: If you want to get more elaborate in the shortcut, see: How to Send Outlook Express Mail from a Command Line http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=192341 INFO: Internet Explorer MAILTO Protocol Parameters http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=188019 -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "tcebob" handle @ gwi.net wrote in message ... Hmm. mailto: wants to use Outlook. I want to use OE. I'll try a batch file but don't know
whether OE has command line switches. rs "tcebob" handle @ gwi.net wrote in message ... :I have a small list of frequent mail addressees and would like to (a) have them on a : toolbar or (b) have them as shortcuts on the desktop. From http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/defaultl.htm Go to Start | Run and type this command, with the double quotes and spaces: "C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /reg and then make sure that OE is selected as the default mail program in both IE and OE. If that isn't enough, see this article: "Send To" and E-mail Links Do Not Work Using Outlook Express as Default: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=306098 You might also want to try this: Restores OE to the E-mail clients list in Internet Options http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/oe_client.htm To set Outlook as the default mail client,- Go to Start, Run - Type in the following with quotation marks and press OK "C:\program files\microsoft office\office\outlook.exe" /checkclient For more information on Outlook see: http://www.slipstick.com/config/defaultmailer.htm -- Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE/WM http://www.fjsmjs.com Please reply in newsgroup. Do NOT send email. |

mailto: uses your default mail program. If you want Outlook to remain
your default mail program, then use the EML templates Bruce suggested. If you want OE to be you default mail program, then see: OLEXP: "Send To" and E-mail Links Do Not Work with Outlook Express http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=306098 Also, in Windows XP: Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, Set Program Access and Defaults, Email -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "tcebob" handle @ gwi.net wrote in message ... Thanks, Michael and Frank.
: Also, in Windows XP: Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, Set Program : Access and Defaults, Email Ok, even though OE and XP knew it was the default, I switched the option from Use Current to OE. It worked. rs |
