OE Frequently crashing

OE is crashing Frequently. Sometimes it doesn't give a reason, other times
it does. Here is the reason that it gives:

Outlook Express FolderSync Window Class: msimn.exe - Application Error

The instruction at "0x7c910e03" referenced memory at "0x004f005c".
The memory could not be "written".

Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program

I searched on Google, and I found a purported solution. Here is what they
say:

Outlook Express FolderSync Window Class: msimn.exe - Application Error
Getting a "FolderSync Window Class: msimn.exe - Application Error"
when opening Outlook Express?
Here's a short step by step instructions to solve the problem:
1. Close Outlook Express
2. Search the "folders.dbx" file on your primary drive (usualy C drive)
3. Once you find it, rename the file - Preferably something similar
(like folders.old) so you'll know where it came from later.
4. Open Outlook Express again. If nesseceray click the send and recieve
button.
This should solve the problem.

NO, that doesn't *solve* the problem. It leaves me with dozens and dozens
of folders that are out of order, and no longer classified under their
proper folders. That instruction is ludicrous. It is like if I asked how to
fix the scratch on my car and being told the solution is to take paint
stripper to the entire car.

Is there a more reasonable solution?

Thanks,

Kirk

then there is the possibility that there is more than one dbx file that is
corrupt and that would lead to possibly being one of the ones that load at
start up like the Inbox or even possibly the directdb.dll file.

Create a new Identitiy in OE (File | Identities | Add new identity
set it up and switch to it.

test it for a bit and see if it clears it up. If it does, then one of the
dbx files is corrupt. Import the mail, set up the mail accounts (you
canexport those from Tools | Accounts and import them as well) into the new
Identity and delete the old Identity.

If this troublsom Identity is the Main Identity, it's not unusual for
problems to happen. Don't expect a fix for it either.

How large is the Inbox.dbx file? Sent Items.dbx file?

A simple drag and drop will put the folders back where they were. The
Folders.dbx file is what contains the folder structure along with other
items.

It sounds to me that either the message store is corrupt (do what DG
suggested), or a 3rd party program is interfering. See

OE Frequently crashing

I went under the assumption that Inbox Outbox and Sent were all corrupt.

I moved all the messages and subfolders out of Inbox to a temp folder, and
moved all of the emails out of sent to a temp folder. Then I closed OE and
deleted Outbox.dbx, Sent.dbx, and Inbox.dbx.

They were recreated when I reopened OE. Will see if that fixes the problem.
Inbox.dbx was 258,000 kb after I moved all the stuff out of it, so it was
probably corrupt.

OK, it hasn't crashed with the FolderSync error since redoing the three main
folders.

It did crash trying to open a jpg attachment. No error message was given,
just OE has crashed...blah blah.

You might try setting up a new Identity instead.
