Lost Photo Folders
I am a senior newbie to the cyberworld as well as to Digital Cameras. I
downloaded all of my photos taken from my garden all summer into My Documents, C:\My Documents and Settings\(my name)\ My Documents\ My Pictures\My Garden '06 . I could see all of the actual pictures in subfolders of Adobe Photoshop Album on my screen (sans the inscriptions I had affixed at the time of downloading). That location C:\Photo Files\Adobe\PhotoShop\Album starter\Edition\3.0\Apps. It seems that I did something wrong because when I wanted to send some of the photos as attachments with an e-mail, I keep getting the message that the file cannot be accessed. When checking in My Documents I found the subfolders of other subjects which I download at the same time i.e. MyFamily, MyBirthday etc only the My Garden '06 is nowhere in site. I am heartsick as these are photos of my very first garden taken during this entire summer. Can you please help me to recover this folder ?? Thank you for any help you may provide. Punky |
Lost Photo Folders
For the future, make sure you back up important information. Your computer
could die completely and all would be lost. Its easy to burn CDs and save the info that way. You need to search the entire hard drive for *.jpg or *.gif or whatever format the images were in and see if they got hidden somewhere. Otherwise, I think you are out of luck. steve "Frema Luther" wrote in message ... I am a senior newbie to the cyberworld as well as to Digital Cameras. It's possible that that single quote in your subdirectory name could be problematic for some software. In particular I don't know what OE would do with it. The best way to find out for sure if it is really there or not would be to open a cmd window and navigate to that My Pictures directory. E.g. if you don't already have a Command Prompt window open to switch to you can Run... cmd.exe to get one. Usually that opens at %USERPROFILE% in which case you could just enter: CD My Documents\My Pictures to get to the target directory. Otherwise enter: CD /d %USERPROFILE%\My Documents\My Pictures (The /d switch will in addition ensure that you're working with the correct drive.) Then enter: dir/a/s dirlst.txt and notepad dirlst.txt Then do a find (press Ctrl-F) in Notepad for either the missing directory or files. I could see all of the actual pictures in subfolders of Adobe Photoshop Album on my screen (sans the inscriptions I had affixed at the time of downloading). In that case perhaps all that has happened is that you have accidentally moved the files to a different directory? Then you could just open two Explorer windows, one for each level, create a new subfolder in the target first if necessary, and then drag-copy the files from where they still are. (In effect, using the second directory as your backup source. w) I am heartsick as these are photos of my very first garden taken during this entire summer. Punky Steve's suggestion to search your whole computer may be necessary if you have accidentally moved the subfolder or the files somewhere else, including the Recycle Bin, though I am not sure if the Recycle Bin is always searched by Explorer Search, even when the "More Advanced" options are used. If you think there is any possibility that you have deleted the files I would check the Recycle Bin manually too. Ok. I just checked: files which are in the Recycle Bin can be found there the same as any other files. Good luck Robert Aldwinckle --- |
