Hmmm. I had SP1 and even V2.2 but still had the similar issue after a hard
install. shrug Bruce "Steve Cochran" wrote in message ... If one goes to Windows Update and gets SP1 for the .NET framework 1.1 then that fixes those issues. steve "Bruce Hagen" wrote in message ... This is really a question for your OS newsgroup, but I just had a similar experience. I had to reload XP/SP2. Prior to that, when I booted up I was taken directly to the Desktop. After the install, I had to click on the Icon at the Welcome Screen to continue to my Desktop and I never set a logon password. I inquired and was first told to remove NET.Framwork, which didn't help. This was the solution that worked for me. It includes instructions whether you had a password, or not. If you go to the Control Panel | User Accounts, you should see an ASP.NET account that was created. Leave the ASP.NET account and go to Start | Run and type: Control userpasswords2 Uncheck "users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" Click apply On the popup window type in your user name, password, and confirm the password Click OK Click OK If you never entered a logon password when setting up the machine, go to Control Panel | User Accounts and create a password for your account. Now go back and do the above again. I know it doesn't make sense that you have to have a password in order to ignore it, but you are dealing with Microsoft. Hope this helps. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Cuyler" wrote in message ... Steve,
You may have hit it with this Registry Settings web site. The site referenced provides the settings that should appear but due to written vs. spoken word, I want to be doubly sure I'm understaning the instructions given since there's more than one way to interpret it. If you could verify for me? In my Registry, I navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT .gif and I find 3 columns labeled Name, Type, Data. My precise 'names' left to right a (DEFAULT) REG_SZ giffile The web site referenced shows under the Name column, (Default)"giffile" where mine is simply (Default) and under the Content Type column "image/gif". I do not have those quote marks as indicated but the name is the same under Content Type. I'll stop at the .gif folder since the other folders appear to follow the same logic. Thanks ! Some confusion comes about because of differences between the way
REGEDIT displays data and how it exports the data. In order to transfer data, people commonly export a registry to REG file (which is actually a text file and can be opened in Notepad) and may copy/paste that information for discussion purposes. The (DEFAULT) REG_SZ giffile In a .REG file, what would appear as @="giffile" The quotes come about so that the regedit can properly parse the file on input. You won't normally see the quotes in Regedit unless you are looking at a path name that contains spaces. That web site is talking about a problem where the file types have the wrong content type, so if those file types have the right content type (without the quotes), that's not your issue. See the Identifying Attachment File Types and Setting File Associations section of Decoding Internet Attachments - A Tutorial http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_san...e.htm#identify At the end of a the section is a utility that you can download that will export all the registry settings related to a file type. You can then attach that here if you would like us to look at it. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Cuyler" wrote in message ... With Steve's suggestion, I was successful in disabling the mandatory longon
window at each startup. However, after going thru all the suggestions in this post, I still do not have email images from trusted sites. Even uninstalled/reinstalled OE and .NET Framework. Still not there. Oh well, thanks for the tips and I see my Yahoo web mail still has html graphics.
