I try to import messages to OE and it doesn't seem to matter which computer
I am on or which identity - even a newly made identity - I try to importr to, or even which message files I try to import, or where I try to import them from (though I always try to import .dbx files) I get an error message reading: "No messages can be found in this folder or another application is running that has the required files open. Please select another folder or try closing applications that may have the files open." The only application that sounds like it might be referring to is OE, but I can't imagine a way of importing without having OE open. What can I do? Cheers. |

Where are these messages? If they are on a CD, you have to copy it to your
HDD first and remove the Read Only attribute for the dbx files. Also, if you did not include Folders.dbx, the import will fail. The ones I am currently thinking of are on my desktop, but I have tried from
other places. How do I get a Folders file in with the one I am trying to import? (I fished it out of Local SettingsApplication Data etc., renamed it then formatted the disk). Cheers. If you are importing individual dbx files and not the entire message store,
the import will fail since Folders.dbx was not included. You have to move them manually now. Do this for each folder. Open OE and create a folder with the *exact* same name as the one on your desktop. Open the new folder and then close OE. Go back to Windows Explorer and Click Desktop and drag the file from the Desktop to the OE store folder, (unopened), that contains the .dbx files. Prompt - "Do you want to overwrite......."? Click Yes. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Johnny" wrote in message ... The ones I am currently thinking of are on my desktop, but I have tried from other places. Thanks; actually I am pleased with myself because I did just that before
having got your reply. This enabled me to import many of what I thought was my horribly lost Hotmail Sent Items file (see earlier thread) from a previous OE Qbackup. I am just mystified as to why OE Qbackup sometimes doesn't save Hotmail Sent Items (unless there's something I am overlooking). "Bruce Hagen" wrote in message ... I'm glad you have that sorted out. I'm not the person to ask about Hotmail,
but what you see in your Hotmail folders only mirrors what is on the server. I surmise that unless you drag messages from Hotmail folders to local folders, the backup wouldn't work. Only a guess on my part though. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Johnny" wrote in message ... No - I took heed of what you said and changed the name. Thanks.
But when I look in the OE Q backup folder there's all sorts of things, including files identifying newsgroups, that just don't show up on the import choices. Shame, really. Cheers. Sorry I should clarify: I made the additional step of creating a new folder
by the name of the file that I was going to use for it as a hotmail saved sent items file. I made it a local folder, as for some reason if it's not a local folder (any comments, panel?) it just doesn't get recognised. Then I sent a dummy email to it so that it was recognised as having content. Then I did an OE Quick backup, on the theory that he creation of the Folders file would subsequently recognise the name as being a bona fide folder. Then, moving into the backup file and doing a delete, I cunningly fooled Windows (actually, in the way you suggested) into thinking that the file I replaced it with was the file it knew. Very sly, over all, I thought.... Cheers. "Johnny" wrote in message ... No - I took heed of what you said and changed the name. Thanks.
