OE will not allow creation of a new folder under local folders
is there a max # of emails allowed to be saved within local folders? --

OE will not allow creation of a new folder under local folders
Windows imposes a maximum file size of 2 GB on any single file and your mail
is stored in files with the extension of DBX, but you will encounter problems long before any such file gets that size. How many local folders have you created? What is the size of the DBX files in your Message Store folder? How often do you compact your Message Store folder? What version of Windows are you using? Is it fully patched and up to date with all updates from Microsoft? For some info on possible problems, see this link: The Other E-Mail Threat: File Corruption in Outlook Express: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/IE/...orruption.mspx -- Jim Pickering, MVP, Outlook Express https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/pr...8-1171988A62D6 Please deliver feedback to the newsgroup, so that others can be helped. OE will not allow creation of a new folder under local folders
OS = windows xp pro on my laptop where challenge currently is
I usually compact when prompted updates are set to automatic by counting local folder list -- I have about 130 folders -- about 2/3 of them are from saving info from classes (done on secured newsgroup server) where do I find the size of DBX files?? -- ElaineMF "Jim Pickering" wrote: Windows imposes a maximum file size of 2 GB on any single file and your mail is stored in files with the extension of DBX, but you will encounter problems long before any such file gets that size. If it's not highlighted, press the Tab key until it is highlighted and then press Ctrl+C to copy it to the Clipboard. Now close Outlook Express and make sure you can view hidden files. Go to Control Panel, click the menu marked Tools/Folder Options and click the View tab. Scroll down to the box Hidden Files and Folders and put a dot in the box marked Show Hidden Files and click the Apply button at the bottom of the page, and exit Control Panel. You should now be able to click on Start/Run and click once on the address bar, then press Ctrl+V to copy the clipboard contents to the address bar and hit OK. Then check the file size of the DBX files in your message store folder. The Inbox.dbx is most likely the problem file, but let us know the size of it. -- Jim Pickering, MVP, Outlook Express https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/pr...8-1171988A62D6 Please deliver feedback to the newsgroup, so that others can be helped. |

file size = 658 MB

Is this 658 MB one DBX file or all of them added together?

OE will not allow creation of a new folder under local folders
all added together -- each file is under the 2 MB max by a long shot
is it possible to move the dbx files under one identity to another identity instead of doing an OE backup of files the dbx files are named so I can identify which ones I want to move for instance -- in ID 1 I have all files been working with up to now -- tonight I created ID 2 -- can I drag the dbx files under ID 1 to ID 2 without upsetting anything major ?? similar to dragging one file to another -- ElaineMF "Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE" wrote: Is this 658 MB one DBX file or all of them added together? -- Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE/WM Reply in newsgroup "They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security" "ElaineMF" wrote in message ... file size = 658 MB size on disk = 659 apparently it is made up of mostly my school files is there a way to move just the school files to another identity name that I created therefore opening up room on my original identity and keeping my school info separated till I finish my last 3 classes graduate in December 2006 (unless I decide to continue for a 2nd degree) thanks for your assistance in this challenge Jim :-) "Jim Pickering" wrote: "ElaineMF" wrote in message ... Sure you can move the school files. Easiest way is just to create a couple
of Explorer folders on your Desktop and then open Outlook Express and resize the window for it so that you can see the messages in the list and the folders you created on your Desktop. Now highlight the messages you want to save that relate to school, and drag/drop them into one of the folders you created on your Desktop. When you create a new identity, you can then reverse the process into a couple of local folders you create in the new identity, but I'd suggest you try and keep those archive files under 100 MB each to avoid corruption issues. Good luck. -- Jim Pickering, MVP, Outlook Express https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/pr...8-1171988A62D6 Please deliver feedback to the newsgroup, so that others can be helped.
