Your help would be greatly appreciated for I do not understand the root
cause of the issue.

Hi, maybe Bellsouth are having big problems?

See the thread a few down in this group, Titled "Cannot Download Last Few
Messages(?)"
Not exactly the same, news vs. mail -- but the same ISP.
