Can't get message rule to work

I am getting way to many very cute emails, on a lot of different topics, all
of which contain the word 'Kristine' in the subject or the message. A
number of message rules should work but they don't seem to. I have tried
every variation I can find in the message rule routine (and I have used many
with generally good success) but to no avail.

I realize these message rules are not guaranteed (to put it mildly), but any
new thoughts would be appreciated. I have read over numerous posts on this
list, but so far no luck.

Would appreciate any thoughts - a fooler because it looks like it ought to
be easy.

In general:

Have all rules that divert mail to folders first.

Delete it from server next.

All others last.

Make sure that every rule also has Stop processing more rules checked,
unless that option is grayed out.

Thanks Bruce - I'm working on your bibliography - but first let me ask
another question. In my Kristine rule, the Stop processing is grayed out,
but the Rules Description (pasted below)

Apply this rule after the message arrives
Where the Subject line contains 'kristine' or 'Kristine' or Where the
message body contains 'kristine' or 'Kristine' Delete it from server

Notice the first line says after message arrives. The whole idea is to
prevent it from downloading in the first place (isn't it?) Confusing

Bruce - what I get from
http://www.tomsterdam.com/insideoe/faqs/why.htm#rules

this site is there is no way to delete it from the server without
downloading it first 1) if the criteria is in the message, and 2) Maybe -
it's not clear, ditto on the subject

Is that correct?

Can't get message rule to work

After the message arrives means Arrives at the server. Yes, it is confusing
and Stop processing more rules should be grayed out in this instance.

This should be a rule that is listed in order after any rules that move
messages to specific folders, if you have any. Otherwise, move it to the
top.

Other things to consider:

Delete it from server only works for rules based on:

To, CC, From, Subject & Size. A Message Body rule must have the action to
Delete it and Stop processing more rules, (Or send it to another folder),
because Message Body rules have to be received to your OE before the rule
can read the text and process the rule.

Also consider your Subject rule. Is the rule always Kristine? If an i was
replaced as a 1, { Kr1stine }, for example, the rule won't work.

Can't get message rule to work

I don't see that there.

- The Actions "Delete from Server" and "Do Not Download" can only test
information in the message header (FROM, TO, CC, SUBJECT, message size).
If you test text in the message body or "has attachment", the message
must be download first for this test, negating the action. Also, these
must be the first rules in your list, or a preceding one may cause the
message to download. (Warning: "Do Not Download" should be a temporary
rule. If you just leave messages on the server, eventually your server
mail account will fill and you'll not receive any new mail.)

Your problem with the rule

Apply this rule after the message arrives
Where the Subject line contains 'kristine' or 'Kristine' or Where the
message body contains 'kristine' or 'Kristine' Delete it from server

Is checking the message body which presents the Delete from server from
working.

Apply this rule after the message arrives
Where the Subject line contains 'kristine'
Delete it from server

Should work fine (the checking is not case sensitive so you don't need
to worry about capitalization).

You could do a second rule after that

Apply this rule after the message arrives
Where the message body contains 'kristine'
Delete it and stop processing more rules
