Help O/Express Recovery from external Drive
A friend's HD was diagnosed as "dead". However, after a period of time, I'm
now able to run it within a USB enclosure externally as a slave. . Have been able to recover pretty much everything for him except his Outlook Express emails, attachments, and address book. I'm running O/Express as my email client and know how to backup my own stuff, but can't figure out how to find his stuff and put it on a DVD for him. Any help would be very appreciated. |
Help O/Express Recovery from external Drive
Search the slave drive for files ending with the extension of DBX. Copy all
of those files to a CD/DVD and he can then copy them to his new setup and clear the Read-Only attribute that is set when a file is copied to a CD/DVD and import them directly into Outlook Express using File/Import/Messages....... -- Jim Pickering, MVP/Windows Mail Programs "Ricky Ricardo" wrote in message news:k4eTg.70549$R63.5897@pd7urf1no... Help O/Express Recovery from external Drive
Hi Jim,
I had searched the drive for files with DBX extensions, and all I could find were outdated mail files he had set up for a 2nd O/Express account 4 years ago. Until the drive "died", he was a frequent user of O/Express under his own name. Could these files be "hidden" or buried w/in Windows? Keith "Jim Pickering\434078" wrote in message ... If you are using Windows XP or 2000, the DBX files will be hidden while
searching. If using those systems, before starting the search, click on the Advanced button and make sure that "Include hidden files" is checked for the search criteria. -- Jim Pickering, MVP, Windows Mail Programs https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/pr...8-1171988A62D6 Please deliver feedback to the newsgroup, so that others can be helped. Jim,
That did the trick! Was able to find the DBX files using the advanced search capabilities and looking for hidden files as well. Was able to find the Windows address book as well. Thanks, Keith "Jim Pickering\434078" wrote in message ... If you are using Windows XP or 2000, the DBX files will be hidden while searching.
