yahoo mail wont work at all

Anti Virus email scanning. Do you have it enabled? Especially either McAfee, or Norton? Those two are known to have conflicts with MSOE. Disable them for email scanning; the "on-access" scanner will still protect you. Firewall. Are you using a third party firewall, such as ZoneAlarm?
