I use both OE (IE6) and Outlook XP at the same time. Several times an email
sent from my OE account has "Sent" through Outlook XP. The email message
then appears in the Outlook XP folders, not OE. What causes this and what
can I do to correct this?

It is the evil folks in the Office group within Microsoft resetting your
defaults perhaps? Every time the junkmail files are updated (once a month
generally) they reset the default email program to OE.

Every time you update, when you reboot, press Start - click Run - type
inetcpl.cpl - press enter - and under the Programs tab set the default email
to Outlook Express once again.

When you're done you should fire off a nastygram (every month, I do...
Really...) asking what makes them think there's some sort of need to reset
your default program settings just because they've fixed the junkmail
filters.

Hey there GIII, they do that even if you do not even have MS Outlook

They do? LOL I've never noticed. I'd like to /think/ it would only happen
when you downloaded Office updates but, wow, if it doesn't that is even more
insane.

Galen, thanks for your reply. However, my default has always been Outlook
XP, not OE. I don't want OE to be the default email client, I use Outlook XP
as my default, only using OE for "private" emails. This problem only started
happening about a month ago so I don't think it is a case of the default
being changed.

The thing that I find strange is that the email Account that I have in OE
isn't in the Accounts list for Outlook XP, yet XP will take over Sending the
email. That is what has me really confused, and what I am trying to stop.

Let me see if I understand this correctly...

You're sitting there in OE (not clicking on an email link or anything) and
you type up a message from within OE. You click reply or what not - not a
link or the likes. You compose the message in OE, you click send within OE,
OE does the appearing to send thing _maybe - I'm not sure about that bit_
but it is actually being sent from Outlook. Or does it show up, when you
click send, as Outlook taking over at that point and sending it? Does it
show up in the sent messages in Outlook to? What's the "From" address that
the email has when the other person gets the email?

(I must say that I've never seen anything quite like this again.)

Now your getting the picture. An email comes in I click Reply, type my
message, click Send. The OE Outbox never shows the email. If I quickly
switch to Outlook XP the email is in the Outbox! When it is done it is in
the Sent folder of Outlook XP. The email address used shows as the email
address I have only in OE.

The only non-standard thing about my email programs is that I use Qurb by CA
as a Spam filter. I've been using Qurb since May and only in the last few
weeks has this been happening. It runs with both email programs.

I've had one other strange problem with OE lately. I use Profiles with OE
and sometimes you can't logoff the Identity with Outlook XP running. You
have to manually close Outlook XP using Task Manager, then come back to OE
and try logging off again. Sometimes even that doesn't work and you have to
use Task Manager to close OE.

I'm impressed. I have an affinity for oddball bugs. This one impresses me to

Maybe a detect and repair in Outlook and/or maybe a repair installation of
OE?

I've amended to subject of this thread so that someone more adept can check

So your OE has an Inbox as well as an Outbox?

I had the idea that if OE was installed as an add-on to Outlook
(e.g. to be used strictly as a newsreader) that you might not get an Inbox
but you would have to have an Outbox; so then if you were sending E-mail
it would have to be picked up by Outlook to send. Therefore, I'm not
surprised that E-mails are being intercepted by/rerouted to Outlook.

Something else which would be a clue about how your E-mail posting
worked would be the version of mapi32.dll that you have.
Use OE's Help, About (Alt-H,A) as an easy way to see that.

BTW you would probably get a more informed reply from an Office NG.
FWIW this would be my guess for what you might need:
