I would be grateful for any thoughts on how I might resolve the
following situation. My wife and I share the same computer. It runs Windows ME. We log in as different users and have separate profiles. We share a single email address. We used to receive all of our mail just once. However ever since I inadvertently installed a different copy of Outlook Express we have been receiving all email twice. Once when my wife checks email and then again when I check email. The Outlook Express inadvertently installed is version 6. I do not know what version of Outlook Express I was using before. I believe that both profiles/identities use the same Pop3uidl.dbx file. - When I delete the file both identities retrieve all of the email retained on the server of my provider. Any suggestions as to how I could revert to the previous (ideal) situation where we receive only one copy of each file would be appreciated. |

It sounds like one of your identities is set to download the messages but leave them on the server. Log in under each profile and make sure that OE-Tools-Accounts-#EMAIL_ACCOUNT#-Properties-Advanced-"Leave a copy of messages on server" is not checked (where #EMAIL_ACCOUNT# is your email account in the list). -- Alec S. news/alec-synetech/cjb/net |

Outlook Express does not have an option to retrieve only new messages (at least none that are visible). If you leave a copy, then every time you check your mail it will retrieve it again. I'm not sure how you did it before; are you sure nothing has changed and that you're not doing anything differently? -- Alec S. news/alec-synetech/cjb/net |

Is this a hotmail account?
There is a bug when accessing hotmail. Do not have both of these settings checked. Send and Receive messages at startup When starting, go directly to my 'Inbox' folder -- Ron Sommer wrote in message oups.com... :I would be grateful for any thoughts on how I might resolve the : following situation. : : My wife and I share the same computer. : : It runs Windows ME. : : We log in as different users and have separate profiles. : : We share a single email address. : : We used to receive all of our mail just once. Other clients have a box that specifically says things like "only download new mail", etc, whereas OE has a file that the user is told nothing about. "completely wrong"… -- Alec S. news/alec-synetech/cjb/net |

Ron, Alec, thanks for taking the time to respond.
Ron - No, this is not a hotmail account. For the record I did experiment with the settings and the only effect was the one expected - that is OE did not send and receive messages at start up and/or OE did not go directly to my 'Inbox' folder. It did not resolve the duplicate message issue. Is there a register specific to one/both of the identies/profiles that can be reset to coordinate the action of OE to achieve the desired result? Thanks again for the thoughts. Ron Sommer wrote: Is this a hotmail account? There is a bug when accessing hotmail. Do not have both of these settings checked. Are you automatically virus scanning incoming emails?
Turn the email scan off. Tools, Options, Maintenance tab, Store Folder button, check each Identity to see if the Store Folders are the same. Both users may not be sharing the same Store Folder. -- Ron Sommer "AvuncularJ" wrote in message oups.com... : Ron, Alec, thanks for taking the time to respond. : : Ron - No, this is not a hotmail account. : : For the record I did experiment with the settings and the only effect : was the one expected - that is OE did not send and receive messages at : start up and/or OE did not go directly to my 'Inbox' folder.
