.exe file rejected
Hi,
When I attach an .exe file to an E-mail sent to a friend, he reports that he cannot open it in Outlook Express. Is there something he has enabled which could have this result? Andy I. |

You could try ZIPping it first. He could try going to Tools | Options | Security and unchecking "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus". -- Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE/WM http://www.fjsmjs.com Answer in newsgroup. What does "open" mean precisely? Very often executable files like that have to be zipped to get past the filters and other safety mechanisms ISPs set up for their clients to protect them against malware. If you mean it won't execute, then he's probably not saving it properly, or, it's being stripped somehow. Pop` |

When he says "open" I guess he means clicking on the .exe in the attachment box and nothing happening. BTW, when I send it to myself , and click the .exe in the attachment block, it "opens" or executes OK. Andy I. |

I find it difficult to conduct an "interrogation" with my friend "at a distance". I guess you have to know the right questions to ask. I don't know how you MVP's do it, or have the patience.... You deserve a medal. The final outcome of this one is that he now tells me he can now open ( I mean execute....) the .exe file. How, he doesn't know... All's well that ends well. Thanks. Andy I. |
