IE7 and OE6
Hi
I just installed IE7. I'm wondering why OE6 is not upgraded to OE7. Steve |
IE7 and OE6
OE has been split off from IE, so there is no OE7.

Was there any truth to the rumours that Windows Mail, that comes with Vista,
was to be available for XP? "Steve Cochran" wrote in message ... OE has been split off from IE, so there is no OE7. steve "SP_1" none wrote in message ... Hi I just installed IE7. I'm wondering why OE6 is not upgraded to OE7. Steve |

No chance at all. There will be a program available for XP/SP2 called
Windows Live Mail Desktop, but from what I see so far, I'm not jumping for joy about it. Will OE6 ever be updated? Or will there still be a standalone email client
after OE6? 'Windows Live Mail Desktop' sounds like something you can only use when you're online (no good for me with my dial-up). Thanks. |

To keep track of things, it helps immensely if you include all of previous
message(s) in your replies to the newsgroup. Thank you. We may see a few fixes for OE6 in the future (but nothing dramatic, I assure you) and anything security-related will be addressed as long as your Windows version is still supported. WL Mail Desktop requires being online, yes. It seems MS figures everybody in the /world/ has affordable broadband access. Go figure. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) david wrote: Will OE6 ever be updated? Or will there still be a standalone email client after OE6? I thought they were not part of (employed by) MS in which case your assurance has no foundation. I have also seen statements like "don't ask me I'm not part of MS". These two don't sit comfortably together and obviously I'm not clear on the matter. Thanks. Bill Ridgeway Computer Solutions |

While we are not part of MS, we have been actively involved in discussions
with the relevant MS personnel in terms of product development for many years. We have been listened to quite a lot and ignored quite a lot. Its a very frustrating encounter, but it does achieve positive results for the users ultimately, at least to some extent. As to knowing MS strategy or not, we usually indicate things that we know are rather rock solid. For instance MS has made no signficant changes to OE for years, so there is a good chance it won't ever. Instead the efforts are being directed towards Windows Mail in Vista and towards the Windows Live Mail stuff, which is available to XP users. MS continues to surprise us both favorably and unfavorably. steve "Bill Ridgeway" wrote in message ... Bill Ridgeway Computer Solutions When an MVP states something about what Microsoft will or will not do, we generally have it from a better source than the Press. They get their information from Public Relations or vice presidents. We get it from the people doing the work. In a meeting at Redmond we told the OE team that something had to be done about people losing their message store. The result was this optional update for WinXP SP2: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en This will be included in a future comprehensive update. One of the things it does is to copy all of the DBX files to Recycled as BAK files, so that the messages are recoverable. -- Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE/WM http://www.fjsmjs.com Answer in newsgroup.
