I have made the mistake of just deleting a message I posted to a
newsgroup, rather than using Cancel Message, and, of course, the
message is no longer on my computer to cancel. Is it possible to
reinstate it, please?

Thanks
Kate

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Clean Up Now. Select the newsgroup at the
top and then Reset and follow up with a Compact. All the messages on the
server will be downloaded again.

If this is an MSNews newsgroup, Cancel will not remove it from the server.

Thank you so much for the info, Bruce. I followed your instructions
and received the message re cancellation request being sent to the
server, but, 90 minutes later, it is still there. Is this usual,
please? Incidentally, it isn`t an MSN newsgroup, thank goodness.

Sorry to keep on about this, but the message still hasn`t been
cancelled and each time I click "Cancel Message" an email to the
server is generated, but when I open it, there is no body text. Is
that correct?

Thanks

I can only reiterate what I said before. The Cancel option, even though it
exists, does not work for most news servers. In most cases, the message can
only be removed by the server monitors. Your message will probably stay
there as long as it is retained on the server.

If it's already in your OE database that's what you're seeing. You'll have
to reset the newsgroup to see if it's really gone.

In general, canceling messages is a waste of time. The news server may not
honor the cancel request and besides, it's already propagated to other
servers around the world.

The Microsoft server does not honor message cancellation requests.

you for telling me, as when I did so, my post had gone.

Yes - thanks Bruce - and I did that, but I didn`t realise that I had
to do it again in order to see that the message had gone from the
server, as I assumed that each time I accessed a NG, everything was
updated.

Thanks again to you and Frank.
