501 Error Message

In an auto Windows Updates IE 7 was installed, not good, un-installed IE 7,
now in my OE when I want to change the color of the fonts when I write an
e-mail and right click and Fonts I get this message: "An error occured in
this dialog. Error 501
Permission denied."
I just installed the new Windows Auto Updates, minus IE 7 and I still get
this 501 error.
What can I do to fix this problem. Thank you for your time.

Go to Control Panel | Add / Remove Programs | Set Program Access and
Defaults and set IE and OE default and see if that fixes it.

Hi Steve,

I did exactly what you wrote, it did not work, so I restarted my PC to see
if the change would have needed it, still the same, it did not fix that 501
Error. In OE writing an e-mail I went to Format and clicked on the Font
there and I get that same error message. Is there anything else I can do?
Thank you again for your time.

Hi again Steve,
I just re-checked the IE and OE default and they stayed as I changed them in
the Microsoft, but in the Custom they do not stay in IE and OE default, after
I click OK the change scan takes place but when I go check that Custom, the
IE and OE check I made are returned to the other "default settings". I don't
know if this will help you. Thanks again.

I'm not sure what is causing that error. Someone else is having it without
IE7 installed, so it may be unrelated.

Can you format the font using the format toolbar in the message window
instead of using Format | Font? When you get the error, are the font names
loaded in the dialog box behind the error window?

Hi Steve,
In case you didn't get my first query, I un-installed IE7.
That's what I was saying in my last reply, when I click the Toolbar's Format
and click on the Font, I still have the 501 error message. And yes the Font
and Colors box is seen behing that error message box. Also, the Fonts list,
the Size and 16 custom color boxes are available when I write an e-mail. I
hope you can help me fix this much needed problem.
Thanks again,

Hi Bebb,

I don't have a clue at the moment. Its hard to reproduce it, so I'm not
sure what to suggest.

I'll reply to this thread if I can find a solution.

Just curious, but you might try this:

Go to Internet options in Control Panel Advanced tab Uncheck- Use http
1.1 OK Test for error message and see if it helps.
