501 Error Message

In an auto Windows Updates IE 7 was installed, not good, un-installed IE 7,
now in my OE when I want to change the color of the fonts when I write an
e-mail and right click and Fonts I get this message: "An error occured in
this dialog. Error 501
Permission denied."
I just installed the new Windows Auto Updates, minus IE 7 and I still get
this 501 error.
What can I do to fix this problem. Thank you for your time.

Go to Control Panel | Add / Remove Programs | Set Program Access and

Hi Steve,

I did exactly what you wrote, it did not work, so I restarted my PC to see
if the change would have needed it, still the same, it did not fix that 501
Error. In OE writing an e-mail I went to Format and clicked on the Font
there and I get that same error message. Is there anything else I can do?
Thank you again for your time.

Hi again Steve,
I just re-checked the IE and OE default and they stayed as I changed them in
the Microsoft, but in the Custom they do not stay in IE and OE default, after
I click OK the change scan takes place but when I go check that Custom, the
IE and OE check I made are returned to the other "default settings". I don't
know if this will help you. Thanks again.

I'm not sure what is causing that error. Someone else is having it without
IE7 installed, so it may be unrelated.

Can you format the font using the format toolbar in the message window
instead of using Format | Font? When you get the error, are the font names
loaded in the dialog box behind the error window?

The problem arises when they go to Format | Font and it loads the font
window and it then generates the error. I doubt that would affect it, since
they are in compose mode when the error occurs.

Can you format the font using the format toolbar in the message window

I don't have a 501 error message but I do have a problem not being able to
use font color with email messages. Highlighting words and selecting a color
change does not work. Using Format Font to change color does not work,
although the sample box in the Format dialog box does show the font with
color. I can change font style and font size.

Other things that do not work a Format Apply background color and
Format Apply Stationery (when I try this option, the font will change, but
I get no background pattern or color).

My computer is new, XP Media Center 2005 PC, but the manufacturer will not
help with software issues even though they sold me the computer with the
software installed. Microsoft also won't help unless I pay them for service
fees. I had IE 6 when I purchased and now have IE 7 installed. I had the
same problem with both versions. I have O.E. 6.00.2900.2180.

I was excited to finally find this section of messages as I have searched

Can you see different colors in HTML mail that is sent to you. Try

I found this while searching for an answer to this problem. I was
experiencing the 501 error also.

Go into Iternet OptionsSecurity tab and click the Custom Level
button.
Under miscellaneous there is a heading "Navigate sub frames
accross
different domains". This has to be set as "Enable". Change it for
the Internet and Trusted sites. Now you can format fonts.

501 Error Message

You are welcome.

No matter what problem you have, you probably aren't the first person to
have it. We learn from others and pass on the knowledge.

Wow!
Who are these guys!
Thanks Mike. I tried the Control Panel option first and it solved all
the
problems I was having - text color, stationery, and background color.
I
never cease to me awed by the knowledge some people have. Thanks for
sharing.

I don't have a 501 error message but I do have a problem not being
able
to
use font color with email messages. Highlighting words and
selecting
a color
change does not work. Using Format Font to change color does not
work,
although the sample box in the Format dialog box does show the font
with
color. I can change font style and font size.

Other things that do not work a Format Apply background color
and
Format Apply Stationery (when I try this option, the font will
change, but
I get no background pattern or color).

My computer is new, XP Media Center 2005 PC, but the manufacturer
will
not
help with software issues even though they sold me the computer
with
the
software installed. Microsoft also won't help unless I pay them
for
service
fees. I had IE 6 when I purchased and now have IE 7 installed. I
had
the
same problem with both versions. I have O.E. 6.00.2900.2180.

I was excited to finally find this section of messages as I have
searched
for answers since I purchased this computer, yet the solution for
others does
not help me. Is there any other fixes I could try. I would be
most
grateful.

Oh my heavens, thank you so much for this fix! I got this error
message
also
after I uninstalled IE 7. How do you folks find something like
this? I'm
amazed. Thank you again.
