Default connecting to pop

I am on a XP system using a DSL connection and for two years mail has gone
out immediately but lately I first see a message block saying "connecting to
pop.xxxx.net" for a few seconds. It is the same local ISP I have always had.
Any idea what caused the change?
Thanks
SG

Maybe your DSL connection has gotten slower. It can
happen if a lot of connections are added in your area
and they haven't upgraded the lines to handle it. You
could try a speedtest (free and nothing to download
or install):

If this doesn't work, please post the entire error message.

Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer
of protection that eats up CPUs, slows down sending, and causes a multitude
of problems such as time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date
A/V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more, see:

Connection is as fast as ever and the message occurs prior to sending and I
am already connected to DSL.
Thanks
