How to retrieve a deleted mail?
It seems that mails which have been deleted in the folder "Deleted Objects"
still do exist since the corresponding dbx folder isn't empty. Therefore, is it possible to retrieve a deleted mail from the dbx folder and how? Thank you. MET |

The messages remain in Deleted Items.dbx until either you compact, or they
are overwritten, which would take awhile. How to retrieve a deleted mail?
Hi MET,
The files in the folder are not eliminated until the folder is compacted. However, there is no easy way to access the files after they are "deleted." You could check the Recycle Bin for a backup of DBX folders that is done following a recent update that may have been applied for your OE install. This backup would be done during a (previous) compacting operation. Depending on how old the message is there may be a copy in the backup for folders (in the Recycle Bin) that originally held the message that can be restored. You could also try using a DBX recovery program to restore the message. Here's a link that may be helpful: Steve Cochran's DBXtract http://www.oehelp.com/DBXtract/Default.aspx Cost is $5. New features: 1. Extract from multiple files sequentially. 2. Store messages under a subdirectory corresponding to the folder name. There is also a better, newer recovery program available for about $30. Look for it at the same site. -- Tim K. aka Kuay Tim MS-MVP - Outlook Express Lynnwood, WA * "MET" wrote in message ... Macallan Outlook Express Extraction: http://www.insideoe.com/resources/tools.htm#macallan Tried your first suggestion. Opened the file Deleted Items.dbx (20MB). The software converts something and ends, but nothing is shown. I guess it created a folder "Deleted Items" containing an empty text file which I think wasn't there previously . Unfortunately there are absolutely no instructions with the tool. Do you know how to use it in order to provide some hints on how to proceed? Thank you. MET |

Unfortunately, I have never had the need to use it. Someone that has will
probably see this post and be able to help. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "MET" wrote in message ... My DBXtract and DBXpress programs will partially recover deleted messages,
but they cannot be completely recovered, as OE overwites 4 bytes for every 512 byte segment of the file, so those bytes are missing in the recovered messages. The program you reference below will not extract deleted messages. There is a special signature to such that that program is unaware of. steve "MET" wrote in message ...
