POP Server reverts to different IP address on its own.
I am using Outlook Express 6.0 to manage my yahoo small business email acct.
Every time I reboot, the settings for the POP3 incoming mail server change from pop.bizmail.yahoo.com to 127.0.0.1. This happens with nothing else being touched. Please advise. thanks! -- tinger |

This is usually caused by scanning e-mail, or an anti-spam program.
Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that eats up CPUs and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A/V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more, see: http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "tinger" wrote in message ... This did not work. I turned off McAfee Virus scan as well as McAfee Spam
Killer. Made appropriate changes to email server accounts and logged off the computer. Logged back on, verified that virus scan and spamkiller were still off and signed on to OE. POP server reverted to 127.0.0.1. -- tinger "Bruce Hagen" wrote: This is usually caused by scanning e-mail, or an anti-spam program. Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. Doesn't McAfee turn itself back on when you reboot? It used to. That said,
the two worst programs you can have that are associated with Outlook Express are those made by Norton and McAfee. I use, and recommend, AVG Free: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5 or: http://www.grisoft.com/doc/40/lng/ww When prompted, choose Custom Installation and *uncheck* e-mail scanning when you see the option. Norton, and McAfee, products are not Outlook Express friendly, and I don't know of any OE-MVP that would recommend using them. Other than that, it has to be caused by a program somewhere on your machine that touches OE. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "tinger" wrote in message ... This did not work. No the McAfee programs are turned off and remain off. There are no other ways
to correct OE from redirecting the POP server address? -- tinger "Bruce Hagen" wrote: Doesn't McAfee turn itself back on when you reboot? It used to. It is some third party program that you have that is causing this. Anything
else besides McAfee? -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "tinger" wrote in message ... No the McAfee programs are turned off and remain off. I just searched the registry and that IP address shows up in Google Desktop

MS Search Assistant may well be the cause.

I have deleted Google Desktop Search and deleted registry entries as
duscussed in the link you sent to me. Still running into SAME problem. -- tinger "Bruce Hagen" wrote: MS Search Assistant may well be the cause. http://www.codeode.com/privacymantra...archassistant/ -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "tinger" wrote in message ...
