Default POP3.log WAS: Outlook deleting mail from server, not downl

It has to be set up to do that. Maybe you thought that it was deleting mail
from the server AFTER you had downloaded them? So that the mailbox didn't
overfill?
For that you would use, toolsaccountspropertiesadvanced and uncheck -
Leave a copy on the server.

Glad all is now well.

You were right - there was a tule like

delete off server

I wonder how it got there. I did not know about this option, and for
sure the user of the cumputer (my mother) would not be able to do
this.... Could this be installed in any other way???? Like a virus?

That is really odd. I live far from hrere, and that would be to many mouse
clicks for my mother to get confused, so I doubt that she can be capable of
doing that herself. There was a Tele2 security thing lately but that was the
port no. changing.

I really wonder how this was possbile.

Well it works now, thanks for the help.

Hi

I have a problem with outlook express 6, that it downloads a list of
messages on the SMTP server, then it stops as normal, but
- it does not tell how many messages there are/were
- it does not download any messages
- it deletes the messages off the server
- it does not play any sound or show any sign, that it has downloaded
anything
- it does not show any error or anything.

Why this?

Everything else seems to work.

Would it be possible to update outlook ex by the internet, there is
"windows.update", but is there such a thing for outlook express?

If you have the pop3.log, attach it to a message here or copy/paste it.
From that we can see what's happening.

Sorry for that mistake. I do know that, but did not think of it.

One possible cause would be to have a Message Rules (Tools, Message
Rules, Mail) with an action of Delete from server.

No. The problem is, that it checks for new messages, it gets a list of
those, then it _should_ retrive those, but does not. In stead, it
deletes
them from the server, and logs off the pop3. Internet connection
remains.
Proof: sending a picture of ~100KB should take a few seconds to
download
(should be clearly visible), but - nothing happens. It is seen, that
there is
a list of messages, which it gets (and then ??? trashes it), then it
closes
without even telling how many there were.
It does not take any time to get the message body, it that part fails.
The
test with a picture would have shown that.

You may want to try recording a pop3.log which will show more details
about incoming mail.

See post in main thread here. I have it.

To create an POP3.log In OE5+, go to Tools, Options, Maintenance,
Troubleshooting and check the Mail box.
You may need to close OE after doing the send/receive for the log to
get
written to disk.

Welll.... it does not even get them from the server. There is nothing
to save.

The log will be in the Store Folder which is listed in Tools,
Options,
Maintenance, Store Folder.

I now see that you've posted the pop3.log in a new thread rather than to
the original thread (where it should have been done) and that you have
resolved the problem.

Hi Mike,
You have obviously seen that it was indeed a message rule as you first
suggested, but the OP denied. I couldn't think what else it could possibly
be, seeing the log, and suggested this again.

I understand that now, I did not understand at first, due to the translation
of Outlook E., which I work with.

As for the attachment (mentioned below), I do not know how to attch it here,
but I found it right to add just under the main mail in this thread, so I
could post it just once, and everyone could access it.

Try deleting the pop3uidl.dbx file (hidden). See if that fixes the problem.
