Strange Email Occurance

That sounds like your father is using a template to send mail rather than
using the Create new Mail button on the Toolbar in Outlook Express. And you
are probably listed on the BCC line in that template, which is why you never
will see your address. Only the original sender (in his/her Sent Items
folder) can see the filled in BCC line.

Hi:

Now I am getting all emails that dad sends out regardless as to they are
too. I have asked him to delete both me and his sons email address's from
his computer and reboot. Hopefully he will do so this time to see if it
makes any difference.

Again when I open one of dad's emails that I receive and hit Cntrl+F3 to
open Message Source data my email address appears up in the server's
traffic, but nowhere does it list me in TO, CC. BCC, or otherwise.

I am beginning to think more in what PaBear has mentioned that dad has an
infected computer or corrupted OE.

Thanks for all the replies. If I ever find the cause I will certainly
repost.

Hi:

I am receiving confirmation of an email sent by a cousin to his dad. The
strange thing is how can I receive an email confirmation when I was not an
addressee?

All three of us have different ISP's. My cousin has his email settings to
receive confirmation of receipts, but again how can I be receiving a
confirmation when he sends his dad an email and his dad opens it? In
addition, all emails that his dad sends him I get a copy even though I am
not an addressee.

This is mind boggling and I sure hope someone can tell me what needs to
be accomplished to prevent this from happening.

Thanks

Strange Email Occurance

Hi:

I had dad accomplish the following in trying to resolve his email problem
of me receiving a copy of his email sent only to his son when I am not an
addressee.

I deleted both me and his son from his address book, rebooted, and had
him send an email only to his son. I continue to erroneously receive a copy
of same.

He has Norton AV installed and he has their latest update of Dec 27, 2006
and he ran a complete scan and nothing was detected.

His computer apparently is sending out emails that he has not sent to
other addressee's. I called his DSL supplier Alltel and spoke with them and
they also feel his computer has a worm/virus. I am sorta at a lost as to why
Norton would not detect anything.

No doubt PaBear is on target about a Trojan etc. My problem now is
detecting it and eliminating it when Norton has not been able too.

Any recommendations will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Tom

Hi PaPear:

Thanks so much for your input and assistance. If the machine was here I am
sure that I could handle your recommendations, but being away is another
story and I agree with your last comments.

I have one other question for you. Since NAV did not detect anything, plus
he apparently has no spyware/malware software installed, could
spyware/malware cause this in lieu of a virus per se?

I am sure that I can get Ad-aware Personal SE, Spy-Bot, Windows Defender
installed and ran. I also feel that he has plenty of spyware most likely,
but I do not know if removal of it would possibly clear this problem?

Thanks again for all your help.

Yes. And you should understand that Home/Small Office versions of NAV may
be able to detect some hijackware but it cannot remove it.

Hi PA Bear:

Just thought that I would let you know that you were 100% correct about
the cause being a Trojan virus. I finally got with my cousin today and
installed Ad-aware Personal SE, Spy-Bot S&D, Windows Defender, and the new
program that you brought to my attention "A-squared Free".

Thanks to you A-squared Free was the program that found the Trojan virus
and now his Outlook Express is working fine and I no longer receive
unintended emails from him.

Thanks a Bunch!

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to
use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware.

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in
admitting
this isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable
and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.

Hi:

I had dad accomplish the following in trying to resolve his email
problem
of me receiving a copy of his email sent only to his son when I am
not
an
addressee.

I deleted both me and his son from his address book, rebooted, and
had
him send an email only to his son. I continue to erroneously receive
a
copy
of same.

He has Norton AV installed and he has their latest update of Dec 27,
2006
and he ran a complete scan and nothing was detected.

His computer apparently is sending out emails that he has not sent
to
other addressee's. I called his DSL supplier Alltel and spoke with
them
and
they also feel his computer has a worm/virus. I am sorta at a lost as
to
why
Norton would not detect anything.

No doubt PaBear is on target about a Trojan etc. My problem now is
detecting it and eliminating it when Norton has not been able too.

Any recommendations will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Tom

Hi:

I am receiving confirmation of an email sent by a cousin to his dad.
The
strange thing is how can I receive an email confirmation when I was
not
an
addressee?

All three of us have different ISP's. My cousin has his email
settings
to
receive confirmation of receipts, but again how can I be receiving a
confirmation when he sends his dad an email and his dad opens it? In
addition, all emails that his dad sends him I get a copy even though
I
am
not an addressee.

This is mind boggling and I sure hope someone can tell me what needs
to
be
accomplished to prevent this from happening.

Thanks
