Hi:
I am receiving confirmation of an email sent by a cousin to his dad. The strange thing is how can I receive an email confirmation when I was not an addressee? All three of us have different ISP's. My cousin has his email settings to receive confirmation of receipts, but again how can I be receiving a confirmation when he sends his dad an email and his dad opens it? In addition, all emails that his dad sends him I get a copy even though I am not an addressee. This is mind boggling and I sure hope someone can tell me what needs to be accomplished to prevent this from happening. Thanks |

Very strange. While it sounds like Dad's machine may be the culprit (think:
hijackware or Trojan infection), see if this behavior persists in a new Named Identity, Tom. Also disable any email scanning by your anti-virus application and any anti-spam applications. canned Your current Identity may be damaged, especially if its the default Main Identity. Try one or more of your accounts in a new Named Identity (File Identities Add new identity). Assuming all is well, (1) compact all folders in the old identity, (2) import messages from the old identity into the new one, and then (3) delete the old one (File Identities Manage Identities). /canned -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) ColTom2 wrote: Hi: I am receiving confirmation of an email sent by a cousin to his dad. Hi PA Bear:
As far as I know I am the only recipient erroneously receiving copies of email sent from dad to son. When I open the email and hit Cntrl+F3 for Message Source Data my email address is listed up in what looks like server sent and received data; however, on further down it indicates sent from dad to son without my address being listed. I don't know if this additional info is of any help to you..... I have not had any other quirks so to speak with my OE that I know about. Thanks "PA Bear" wrote in message ... Very strange. First listen to PaBear as he knows loads more than I.
Any chance Dad has you as a BCC, I am not sure that would be obvious or not. Mel "ColTom2" wrote in message ... Hi: I am receiving confirmation of an email sent by a cousin to his dad. I don't see how it could possibly be something on your machine. I do wish you wouldn't post in HTML, especially when you make no use of its formatting potential. -- Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE/WM http://www.fjsmjs.com Answer in newsgroup. Don't send mail. |

Hi Frank:
I apologize for sending in HTML and have now changed to plain text. I thought I was sending in plain text and appreciate you bringing this to my attention. I agree with your comments and am most suspect that it has something to do with "dads" computer, which I am trying to run down the cause. Thanks "Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE/WM" wrote in message ... Hi:
I had the son turn off his receipt confirmation setting and this stopped me from receiving the emails. I also had both delete my email address, reboot, and reinstall it. I still have no idea as to what would have caused me to receive the emails as outlined in my original email. Thanks "ColTom2" wrote in message ... Chances are that your uncle's PC is infected, Tom.

Thanks Adding to the other responses: Some rather unlikely, but possible, other causes: - Your cousin has set your e-mail address in his Reply-To: header. Of course this does not have to be an *intentional* setting, but someone or something *could* have done that. This assumes that your cousin's dad's mailer does the right thing and honors the Reply-to: header. This cause is unlikely because this way you cousin would not likely to receive *any* mail, because *all* mail, i.e. not only receipt confirmations, should go to you. - Same story as above but now for some (AFAIK (As Far As I Know)) non-standard "X-Receipts-To:" (or some such) header. This cause is slightly less unlikely, because (if your cousin's dad's mailer honors this header) the receipt confirmations would go to you (as they do), but normal mail or normal replies would still go to your cousin. Again: This is all *unlikely*, but *possible*. |

Hi:
Now I am getting all emails that dad sends out regardless as to they are too. I have asked him to delete both me and his sons email address's from his computer and reboot. Hopefully he will do so this time to see if it makes any difference. Again when I open one of dad's emails that I receive and hit Cntrl+F3 to open Message Source data my email address appears up in the server's traffic, but nowhere does it list me in TO, CC. BCC, or otherwise. I am beginning to think more in what PaBear has mentioned that dad has an infected computer or corrupted OE. Thanks for all the replies. If I ever find the cause I will certainly repost. "ColTom2" wrote in message ... Hi: I am receiving confirmation of an email sent by a cousin to his dad.
