Downloading IE/OE 6 ??

I need to download a COMPLETE install set for
IE6/OE6 to install on a neighbors PC which is
unfortunately on a really slow dial-in line.

When I try to download IE6 using IE6SETUP from
M'soft, I get a "can't install on this PC because
you already have a later version installed" kinda
message. IE6SETUP then dies.

Where can I download the complete set of install files
without using IE6SETUP???? Just want to make a CD copy
to take down the street to refresh their OE6 mail client.

thanks

IE6/OE6 is a part of the operating system and is on the CD that came with
the computer. In Add/Remove Programs | Add/Remove Windows Components, make
sure both are checked. If they are, see if this helps.

How to Reinstall or Repair IE6 and OE6:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=318378

Although written for WinXP, it works for all Windows operating systems 98 or
newer.

I'm sure you are all offering me a great solution, but:

A. I can't download the OE6 install file to my neighbors computer
because their dial up line is too slow. Fact.

2. I can't download the complete install set to my computer to burn
on a CD because after I download IE6SETUP.EXE and execute it it tells
me that I already have a later version of IE on my PC, even after
I uninstall IE and OE.

So ... I need a way to download ALL of the IE/OE6 installations
files (every damn one) in one fell swoop to my hard drive despite.

I can't reinstall from product CD because they have a Win98SE CD
which I believe has IE4 on it. My XP CD has IE 6, but is not happy
running on a 98 system.

There just must be a way to download the complete install image for
IE6 using an FTO protocol that does not check what I am running before
it lets me download it.

Please??

Please re-*read* the postings, especially Ricky's.

And pay attention to *how* ie6setup.exe is started:

[From http://www.compu-docs.com/ieadmininstall.htm :]

quote
After the file is downloaded into the Windows Update Setup Files folder
you created, Go to Start-Run and type in exactly (or just copy and
paste it):

"C:\Windows Update Setup Files\ie6setup.exe" /c:"ie6wzd.exe /d /s:""#E"

You must include all of the quotes (6 of them).
/quote

I.e. you don't just run ie6setup.exe, but run it with additional
options and parameters.

I have obviously not followed the whole process, but the start of it
and it looks like you can 1) select the target OS (i.e. Windows 98), 2)
download the right version, 3) burn it to CD and 4) install it on the
other computer, i.e. *exactly* what you need. AFAICT, the page has all
the neccessary information/steps.

Yup, did it just like that cut and paste, and got a real nastygram
from M'soft about the inability to access.

But did find a complete download at

Thanks to AAH.

See:

NB: You will want to disable the anti-virus application BEFORE installing
IE/OE6 in Win98.

After installing, go IMMEDIATELY to Windows Update and get the machine fully
patched, even if doing so takes hours on dial-up.

He has already been there. The problem with that procedure is, *as he
mentioned*, that running ie6setup.exe will not allow him to *download*
IE6SP1 *itself* to *his* computer, because he already has a newer
version of IE6 on his computer. I.e. he can download the small (~480KB)
*setup* program, but not IE6 *itself*.

See Ricky's and my responses on how this problem can be solved. (But
apparently nick got yet another problem ("Yup, did it just like that cut
and paste, and got a real nastygram from M'soft about the inability to
access.").)
