Newsgroup Msg Disappearing
I downloaded something called OEToolbar from an MVP site. But didn't like it
so I deleted the program. My newsgroup accounts look like they crashed because I can no longer view messages. I have deleted and recreated the accounts but the messages seem to disappear after the headers are downloaded. Its like the messages or headers get downloaded, then they all get marked as read, then they all vanish. I try to download the headers and the messages and i select them all and mark them as unread. But when i click onto another news group, the messages vanish again.... can anyone help? |

Try creating a new identity, switch to it and set up the news accounts in
that new identity and test it. It's likely that your existing identity is suffering some registry corruption, but I would not think that OETool (if that's the utility you used) would in any way be responsible. Post back if you continue to have problems along with the info about operating system in use and version of Outlook Express shown in Help/About along with info about when you last updated your system with all Microsoft updates marked as Critical for your operating system. Also, make sure you check your system for malware and/or parasites: Go here for info: http://aumha.org/a/tshoot.php#malware And for a quick check: http://aumha.org/a/noads.php -- Jim Pickering, MVP/Windows Mail applications Please reply ONLY to newsgroup. thanks, making the new identity and making the accounts again made everything
work o.k. again and i can now see all the postings like i use to. i imported the regular messages too from my message store / file. but i noticed all these extra folders like calender, tasks, contacts. i guess i can hide them or remove them since i don't use these subfolders in outlook express. can i or should i also remove that other identity? or should i keep it handy like a backup file? Is MS Outlook your Mail Client and are you only using OE to access the
newsgroups? Before replacing the identity, did you happen to check your settings in View Current View? -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) dude wrote: thanks, making the new identity and making the accounts again made everything work o.k. again and i can now see all the postings like i use to. i imported the regular messages too from my message store / file. but i noticed all these extra folders like calender, tasks, contacts. i guess i can hide them or remove them since i don't use these subfolders in outlook express. can i or should i also remove that other identity? or should i keep it handy like a backup file? The Calendar, Tasks, etc., can safely be deleted. If you've got all your
mail messages imported from the problem identity (most likely the "Main Identity"), then it's also safe to delete it. i tried everything and the only thing left was to uninstall and reinstall
o.e. but i coulndt figure how to do it. but making the new identity fixed it maybe it had the same affect.
