Yesterday I started my OE as I have normally done in the past many years, I
suddenly receive three errors in a row upon starting it. The first alert error says: "The identity login could not be started. Some components are either missing or incorrectly configured." The immediate second error alert says: "Outlook Express could not be started. It may not be installed correctly. Make sure that your disk is not full or that you are not out of memory. Contact Microsoft support for further assistance. (0x8007045A)" I have more than enough memory, and I nearly have a gig of disk space available. The third alert says: "Outlook Express could not be started because MSOE.DLL could not be initialized. Outlook Express may not be installed correctly." This all occurred out of the blue. I haven't downloaded anything, nor deleted any files prior to all this error business. I did the Add/Remove Windows Components proceedure as described in the tech support page on fixing any issues. Unfortunately I still keep getting the error. Any assistance to resolve this matter is greatly appreciated. A great many thanks in advance! Psyberwolf |

See:
http://www.insideoe.com/problems/errors.htm#crash And from: http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/directdb.htm Errors in DIRECTDB.DLL or MSOE.DLL generally indicate corruption in the message store. Start by moving Folders.dbx to an empty Windows folder. You will lose your folder hierarchy and the lists of newsgroups on the news servers, but it might get you into OE. Note: The DBX file are hidden files in Win2K, WinXP and Win2K03. If that doesn't do it then move all of the DBX files to the same folder as Folders.dbx. You should now get into OE. Try importing the messages from the folder you moved the DBX files to. If you can't, you can use one of these tools to extract the messages: DBXtract: http://www.oehelp.com/DBXtract/Default.aspx DBXpress: {much faster for large files} http://www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/Default.aspx Note: It can take a long time (days with really large folders). The messages can then be dragged from the Windows folder back into a folder in an open instance of OE. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Psyberwolf" wrote in message ... You could try a reinstall outlined below, but I would give this thread some
more time and see if someone else has an idea. A reinstall sometimes, but seldom fixes problems. How to Reinstall or Repair IE6 and OE6: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=318378 Although written for WinXP, it works for all Windows operating systems 98 or newer. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Psyberwolf" wrote in message ... If the other suggestions don't work, then delete this key in the registry
which will reset OE. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities See if that works. If it does, then see here to recovery your messages: www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#4 steve "Psyberwolf" wrote in message ... I have the same 3 error messages in sequence as "psyberwolf", excpept for the
error code in the 2nd, middle message is "0x80070005". Tried to follow your directions, but cannot locate any DBX files, even after allowing showing of hidden files -including protected system files (used both search and windows explorer methods). System is XP. Frustrated and losing hope. If can't solve, how can I uninstall and reinstall OE by itself, or it is part of a larger program that must be acted on?
