Changing ISP's
Currently I have Copper.Net, which incorporates OE in it's mail system.
Changing to PeoplePC will involve a change in the setup for OE6 and, in my opinion, a loss of the current account. Is there an easy way to save this information and transfer it to the new account? Harry. |

If you want to save your account settings for Copper.net: Tools | Accounts |
Mail | Export. But these settings will mean nothing if you cancel your account with Cooper. Or am I misunderstanding what you want to save? The server settings for PeoplePC will be different. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "webster72n" wrote in message ... Sorry for making myself not clear enough, Bruce. I would like to save my 'Sent items' and an entire created New Folder' with its subfolders, if that's possible. Harry. Easiest is just to create a new Windows Explorer folder and call it "Sent
Items" and save it on your Desktop. Now open Outlook Express and resize it so it only takes up half the window. Open the Windows Explorer folder "Sent Items" and resize it so it takes up the other half. Now go to Sent Items in Outlook Express and press Ctrl+A to select all the messages, and drag/drop them into the Windows Explorer folder. You can now save that Explorer folder, copy it to a CD, transfer it to any system and each time you wish to read a message, just double click it and it will open in Outlook Express. The entire process should take about 1 or 2 minutes. -- Jim Pickering, MVP/Windows Mail applications Please reply ONLY to newsgroup. "webster72n" wrote in message ... Changing ISPs should not affect OE as it is part of your operating system
and not part of your ISP. That said, it is always a good idea to backup OE so if anything should happen, your folders and messages can be replaced. Thank you both, Bruce and Jim, for your quick responses. I sort of anticipated your answer, Bruce, but Jim's reply is something new to me and will need some extra attention. Now I feel better about changing ISP's. The links are very helpful also. Harry. "Bruce Hagen" wrote in message ... Be careful using PeoplePC. They have a proprietary dialer software and you may not get your
antivirus program to automatically update off the Internet. (Or any other program that requires automatic updates). You will be forced to manually update these programs after you establish your Internet connection. "webster72n" wrote in message ... Thank you both, Bruce and Jim, for your quick responses. That is certainly very useful information, Richard and it will motivate me to have second thoughts about my intentions. I am glad you made me aware of this and you have my gratitude for it. If you are looking for a "low cost ISP", take a look at www.isp.com. I have connected a number of
our club members to this ISP and they all report good service. ISP.COM has only an $8.95 monthly charge for full, unlimited service, but they do charge for tech support after 30 days. But at least the tech support has a Utah accent, which most of us can understand LOL. "webster72n" wrote in message ... Tried that one some time back and my phone number is not included in their service area. Thanks anyway, Richard. Think I'll stick with Copper.Net for the time being, at least. Their service costs less than 10 $'s a month, if signed up for the whole year and it's very efficient. For 5 $'s more there is HighSpeed also, but that didn't work out for me. Harry.
