Hi All,

Generally OE is ok but when I first sync it is taking 30 seconds or so for
the dialogue that tells you what is going on to populate with all the tasks
it has to do.

My Outlook Express folder (under local settings) is now over 1GB in size and
am subscribed to about 40 newsgroups. For the larger NG's I only download
headers.

PC is running W2K. Processor is an Athlon XP running at 1800MHz. Memory is
512MB. There is plenty of disk space available.

I don't think there is anything wrong as such, simply that I need to do some
maintenance, but I'm not sure what to do. Main thing is that I don't want to
lose replies to messages I have posted to newsgroups.

I have tried compacting messages but it has not really made any difference.

Can anyone advise please?

Replies are saved in Sent Items.
Any replies that you want to save should be moved to a user created folder.
After the move, Sent Items should be compacted.

Users created folders will have the same columns as the Inbox.
I add a To: column on the right.

Replies that you make go to the Sent Items folder. They stay there
until you manually delete them. Same as any other Local Folder.

Replies that others make to your posts are no different than new posts
by others or replies others make to other posts. They are only in the
newsgroup and OE will eventually delete them when the server does. To
save those longer than the server does, you must manually copy them to a
local folder before the server deletes them.

The newsgroup messages you post, whether original or reply, are stored in
Sent Items and, of course, in the newsgroup. Of course, the ones in the
newsgroup will expire out of the newsgroup but the ones in Sent Items won't.
The bigger Sent Items get the more apt it is to become corrupt.
