Receiving double emails

After updating to IE7, I starting receiving double copies of my emails. When
I go to Yahoo mail, I only get the normal one copy. How do I correct this?
It's a pop3 server.

Hi Charlie,

Do you keep copies of messages on the server? Note that if you do they
should normally be kept for a limited time as most (POP3) mail boxes have
limited capacity.

Tools | Accounts | Mail Account | Properties Advanced tab

It is possible that the DBX file that tracks messages that have been
downloaded is damaged. Replacing the file will result in downloading any
messages stored on the server.

From the Microsoft KB

SYMPTOMS
In Outlook Express 5, if you receive Post Office Protocol (POP3) e-mail from
an account that has a copy of messages left on the server, you may receive
duplicate messages from the server each time you send and receive.

CAUSE
This behavior can occur if the Pop3uidl.dbx file is damaged.

RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, rename the Pop3uidl.dbx file, and then restart
Outlook Express. Follow these steps:

1. Click Exit on the File menu to quit Outlook Express.

2. Click Start, point to Search, and then click For Files or
Folders.

3. Include hidden files and folders in the search for Win 2000 and
Win XP.

4. In the Search for files or folders named box, type Pop3uidl.dbx,
and then click Search Now.

5. Under Search Results, right-click the Pop3uidl.dbx file, and then
click Rename.

6. Type Pop3uidl.old, and then press ENTER. Or delete the file.

7. To start Outlook Express, click Start, point to Programs, and
then click Outlook Express.

Open the Store Folder Alternative

a.. In Outlook Express click on Tools, Options, Maintenance tab...Store
Folder.
b.. Place the cursor at the left of the text of the path to the folder.
c.. Drag the cursor to the right until the text scrolls to the end.
d.. Right-click on the text and choose Copy.
e.. In the Start, Run box right-click Paste. Click OK to open the store
folder.
f.. Quit Outlook Express before deleting the Deleted Items.dbx file.

An even easier method when opening that page is to use the Tab to
highlight the folder location, then Ctrl+C and close OE, then use Start/Run
and Ctrl+V. Same caveat about hidden files applies but can be easily
modified in Explorer by using Tools/Folder Options.

Jim,
Thanks for the web site. Following it's instructions, in OE6, account
properties, I unchecked "leave copies of messages on server." This stopped my
double emails. I have not idea it that was checked before upgrading to IE7,
or if this is an option that I would have a need for, but the problems fixed,
so I'm happy.

Try deleting your pop3uidl.dbx file (hidden). Then you'll download your
messages one more time and then try unchecking that option again and see if
its fixed. That file might have gotten corrupted.
