Word attachments converted to text

When I receive Word attachments, they are mysteriously converted to
unreadable .txt documents. I am using OE6, Norton AV, and Trend Micro
Anti-Spam. They leave the sender as .doc and arrive as .txt. Any one
have any suggestions? Thanks.

Have you tried renaming the txt as .doc? I did that with a similar instance
a few days ago, and the file was readable. Don't know why it arrived that
way, though, as in general .docs arrive OK.

Is the sender using Outlook or Outlook Express?
Are they sending in RTF format?

Yes, I thought of that but it didn't help. I've also discovered that the
problem is not limited to .doc files; it also happened to a .jpg
file. Normally, I get these files fine.

I do not know what email package(s) these senders are using. Actually, I
just found out that the problem has occurred with a Word document and a
..jpg file.

Ask those using MS Outlook to send to you only using Plain Text, especially
if there's an attachment.
