Due to a large amount of SPAM that gets by filters and rules, could MS come
up with a short-cut (button) that would throw all unopened/unread and/or
unviewed e-mails from your inbox folder to your deleted items folder?
Similar to the right click on deleted items folder to delete all e-mails.

Please don't tell me that has already been done and I've missed it. :)

All email is received unread, ergo would go into the Deleted Folder and if you have delete
files in the Deleted older upon exit, there goes your legit email !

This is what email rules are about. If you are concerned about spam, get an email client
that has and improved spam filtering capability that uses regular expressions and learning
capabilities.

OE is never going to see any changes like that since Windows Mail in Vista
will get all the attention from now on.

Do not keep messages in your Inbox. Read them and if you want to keep the,
move them to a user created folder, which you should do anyway.

When nothing is left in your Inbox that you want, uncheck the Preview Pane,
and click on one message header. Ctrl+A will highlight them all and then you
can use the Delete button to remove them.

See these links for more help:

Some Message Rule Ideas:

Some tips:

Controlling Junk Mail in Outlook Express:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/IE/.../junkmail.mspx

Message Rules not working?:
http://www.tomsterdam.com/insideoe/faqs/why.htm#rules

General precautions for Outlook Express:

Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They will eventually become
corrupt. Create your own user defined folders for storing mail and move your
mail to them. Empty Deleted Items folder regularly. Keep user created
folders under 100MB, and Default folders as empty as is feasible.

After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually while
working *offline* and do it often.

Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are
open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the
Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until
the compacting is completed.

Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer
of protection that eats up CPUs and causes a multitude of problems such as
time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A/V program will
continue to protect you sufficiently. For more, see:
http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

In Tools | Options | Maintenance: Uncheck Compact messages in background and
leave it unchecked. {N/A if running XP/SP2}.

And backup often.

You can't do it with a single button, but you can go to View | Current View
| Hide read messages, then Edit | Select all (CTRL-A), and then right click
on the selection and chose move to folder. Then go back to View | Current
View | Show all messages. That's not very many clicks.

OK, I give up. You guys win. :)

What I was suggesting was not an auto delete (Dave's response) but one the
user could control.
IOW- once you've viewed the e-mails you want, then click a button to move
rest into deleted item folder en mass.

It was just a thought,

I could do that with my OEX program: www.oehelp.com/OEX/

You just want all unread messages to be deleted right? That would be easy.

""" You just want all unread messages to be deleted right? That would be

That's all I meant to suggest.
What I do, in the morning, is look through all my e-mails, sometimes as many
as 150, move the ones I want to keep into other folders and the delete the
rest which is spam.
Since you can right click on deleted items folder to empty, I thought the
same thing with the inbox would be possible and easy with unread items.

Oh well, :)
thanks,

If you want to delete everything in the Inbox at one time, click on one
message header to highlight it, then Ctrl+A will highlight them all, press
Delete. They're gone to Deleted Items. Or, Ctrl+A, then Shift + Delete will
bypass Deleted Items.
