Prob Reading e-mail

A friend of mine did something to his OE6 that causes him not to be able to
view all his incoming e-mail (some e-mail contains only "gibberish"). He
sends it on to me and I can view it fine. Some is just print and some are
pictures.
I thought he might have set the "open with" to the wrong application, but
I'm not sure how to even check that, or if that is the problem.
Any help would be appreciated

If he is getting EML file attachments (which are forwarded messages) and
the file association for EML files is wrong, that could be the issue.

Another possibility:
Go to Tools | Options | Read.
Click International Settings.
Uncheck the box to Always use default encoding.
