OE6 has built-in support for S/MIME.

Encrypting OE6 emails
Hi Michael,
Thanks for the info below. I've since downloaded and installed a Verisign 60-day trial certificate within Outlook Express 6 via the Tools/Accounts/Security menu. Now when I try sending an encrypted email I get the following message: "Outlook was unable to locate the digital IDs for the following recipients". If I try to digitally sign the message only I receive the following message: "The message could not be sent, an error has occurred" How do I get my public key to the recipient ... if this email gets intercepted the key will land in the wrong hands, not so? I'm doing something wrong, please help. Regards, Ralf "Michael Santovec" wrote in message ... OE6 has built-in support for S/MIME. To send an encrypted mail, the recipient must have a digital id. That
person must then make their public key public (i.e. send you a copy, post it on their web site, etc.). You use that key to encrypt messages for them. They use their private key to decrypt them. As for the digital id that you have, it is not used to send encrypted mails. It is used to receive them. You want your public key available to anyone. That is used so that they can send encrypted mail to you. The key is also used if you want to digitally sign a message (Not related to a message signature). People can then use your public key to verify that the message was sent by you. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Ralf" wrote in message ...
