Compressing Files notice

Every time I try to compress all my OE files/folders, a message pops up 1/2 way through that a "file is being used by another program." I've done this 100s of times w/o this message. I have tried everything:

Cleaned out my SENT folder, Closed the string so only Local Folders show, always delete the Deleted Items folder first, am Offline, etc. What's the problem?

Using XP Pro, Ad Aware, AVG daily, SpyBot S&D, removed v.6 of Zone Alarm, so using MS's instead until v.7 is tested, etc. All updates are current.

Thank you.

First, restart the machine and try to compact first thing.

If that doesn't work, grab the error message by the blue strip at the top and you can drag it to the side to see what folder it is stuck on. It most likely will be Folders File. If it is, close OE and delete Folders.dbx from the message store. Open OE and try compacting now. If it's another folder, post back.

The only consequence to deleting Folders.dbx is that some of your folders may be out of the order you had them in, but you can simply drag them back to where you want them.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Press the Tab key to highlight the folder location, then Ctrl+C. Close OE, then Start | Run | Ctrl+V will put the location in the box - Click OK and you'll see the OE files. Otherwise, write the location down and navigate to it in Windows Explorer.

In WinXP, Win2K & Win2K3, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options Icon | View, or in Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options | View.

You're welcome. Sometimes a third party program that /touches/ OE will cause that once it starts working. I have an e-mail alert program that gives me a pop-up when I get an message in any folder I have checked, including newsgroups. I have to compact before I start the program or the same thing happens to me since it directly reacts on the Folders File.
