I'm trying to assist an elderly neighbor with a one-month old Dell {WinXP
Home/OE6}. Today, she completely lost her entire Toolbar. When I go to 'Layout,' the Toolbar box was checked. I checked/unchecked - no difference. When I checked the Toolbar box, the 'Customize Toolbar' button would appear 'active' - but no customize screen would come up. Nothing happens when you click on the Customize Toolbar button. Yesterday evening, I thought I would help her by 'compacting' her folders. I went 'off-line' and clicked the 'Compact' button. It appeared to function normally. My neighbor is thinking maybe what I did [compacting her folders] caused the problem. I'm thinking there's no connection - just a timewise coincidence. I'm totally stuck. Nothing I did brought back the Toolbar. Send/Receive functions - just no buttons. Thanks - james |

Thanks for the quick reply. I wasn't expecting a reply until tomorrow
morning. After posting, I reviewed some older posts from OE General and came across a similar post on 2/16/07 - and you recommended he take a look at: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=209169 I'm thinking the above instructions are a more detailed version of the one you supplied to me {below}. Since I've never delved into creating 'new identities,' I think I can follow the instructions detailed {above}. One question? Do you think my compacting the folders {off-line} could have caused the missing toolbar? Thanks - james "Bruce Hagen" wrote in message ... Compacting folders is necessary, but can result in a loss of messages if not
done correctly. Compacting should not result in a loss of a Toolbar though. If this doesn't help, then I would try a new identity. http://www.insideoe.com/problems/bugs.htm#notoolbars -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "James" wrote in message ... That repeated link should have been:

Thanks {again} Bruce. It worked! Did take me a few minutes to get the
right formula to export/import the WAB - but, that worked too. Thanks - james "James" wrote in message ... Thanks Bruce, I'll attempt to implement those instructions in the morning.
