I use anti-virus continuously...
If you don't have an AV app installed, you're not. I've just removed Norton and McAfee... You had NAV *and* VirusScan installed and loading at boot? ...All mail flows through protected servers before getting to the laptop. Viruses, Trojans and hijackware can compromise your machine in ways other than email, Rich. -- ~PA Bear Rich F wrote: I use anti-virus continuously - I've just removed Norton and McAfee due to their constant interference with all other activities and ridiculous slowing of my machine. Does the fact that my OE has thousands of emails - in user defined folders - have any impact on receiving new mails with attachments? I've used OE for years. In the past few months, I've received emails with no From, To, Subject or message. In the same 5 minute period, some will be blank and others come through fine. I have no Norton or McAfee on my laptop, no anti-virus other than Windows standard, I've cleared the Temp and Temporary Internet files, reduced the default OE files to less than 100 messages each and still am getting blank messages. I've also done virus and spyware checks with no findings. I know that the bona-fide messages are coming in blank since I have sent messages to myself and all of the messages appear on an ISP server that I can access separately. Any other ideas or solutions? |

Look at the Message Source (Ctrl-F3) for the problem messages.
Do you see any message text? What about the headers? If you see any X-headers that mention any anti-spam or anti-virus software, then you likely have something installed that you aren't aware off. PC manufactures often install trial versions at the factory. You could also copy/paste what you find here. Or you may send me one of the problem messages and I'll take a look at it. It's best if you zip the message so that I get an exact copy of it. To do that, do a File, Save As to an EML file of a problem message. Then Right click the saved EML file and select Send To, Compressed (zipped) folder. Then e-mail me the resulting ZIP file. Alternately, you can do a Message, Forward As Attachment of a problem message. This is not as good as the zip file since the headers can be modified in transit which may obscure the problem. A simple Forward is worthless since it does not include the headers. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Rich F" wrote in message ... I've used OE for years. Your solution might have worked. I'll give it a few more days, but it seems
to have stopped the "blank" mails. Thanks "Steve Cochran" wrote: After removing Norton / McAfee, remove your mail account, close and reopen OE and add your mail account back again.
