I am using OE6 as a newsreader in XP Pro SP2. When I send a message to a
newsgroup my message and all replies to it are not showing up in the messages received list. If I open Find and search under subject for the subject I know I used, then my message and all replies show up in the list. I can then open the replies and reply to them. Later I can do another Find and my reply to the reply will be there, but none of these messages appear when I just log onto the newsgroup and download all messages. Is there a fix? Thanks, Gene |

Then I had to go to Tools | Get New Headers to get new messages, but this did not help. All the years I have used OE I have had this checked, and have had it set to download 999 headers, so it does not take me long to catch up. If I uncheck it and use "Get New Headers" I cannot get all the old posts to a newsgroup I join (can I?). Anyway, it did not seem to make a difference. Besides, I have always used this setting (set to 999) and as I said in the first post, OE usually works fine. Did you notice in my response to Bruce that OE is working fine in this MS newsgroup? Funny, huh? Thanks, Gene Gene wrote: I am using OE6 as a newsreader in XP Pro SP2. Leave Get xxx headers unchecked. Unsubscribe from the XP newsgroup. Close OE
and delete the dbx file for that newsgroup. Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Press the Tab key to highlight the folder location, then Ctrl+C. Close OE, then Start | Run | Ctrl+V will put the location in the box - Click OK and you'll see the OE files. Otherwise, write the location down and navigate to it in Windows Explorer. In WinXP, Win2K & Win2K3, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options Icon | View, or in Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options | View. Reboot the computer, open OE and Compact your folders. Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed. Resubscribe to the newsgroup and see if that helps. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Gene" wrote in message ... "Bruce Hagen" wrote in message ... See Bruce's reply. If no joy:
Check your settings in View Current View for *each* newsgroup. If no joy, leave the "Get XX headers at a time" unchecked Does the following link create a new entry & folder in Folder pane?... news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...xp.network_web If not and if still no joy, try Resetting the newsgroup. -- ~PA Bear Gene wrote: "PA Bear" wrote in message ... Resubscribe to the newsgroup and see if that helps. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ I followed the above procedure twice, and it has not helped. I also followed PA Bear's advice and rechecked the View | Current View setting for all newsgroups, and they are the same as instructed. When I do a Find on the other newsgroup I can continue to carry on the conversation with the fellow who is trying to help me with the network problem, but I just cannot see the conversation in the normal way, as I can with other newsgroups. In your instructions you told me to unsubscribe, close OE, and delete the dbx file. While subscribed I opened Windows Explorer and verified the dbx file was there, and closed Explorer. After unsubscribing and closing OE I opened Explorer and the dbx file was gone. OE apparently deleted it (but it was not in the Recycle Bin). This happened both times I tried your instructions. Could the fact it is not there for me to manually delete possibly affect the results? Any other suggestions? Thanks, Gene "Gene" wrote in message ... "Bruce Hagen" wrote in message ...
