I doubt he is suggesting uninstalling Norton and then doing nothing else. I
believe the "not" is a typo. Either way the real point is that it has nothing to do with antivirus. Given the number of recent posts on the web for this identical problem I firmly belive it is associated with the latest set of MS patches but this is still speculation on my part. Hello lpdf,
You can be assured he suggested uninstalling Norton and "not" replace it with MacAfee. You can prove it to yourself by searching this newsgroup for other post by him suggesting the same. Now is your chance to prove him wrong Norton and MacAfee do not play well with Outlook Express. If uninstalling Norton doesn't fix the problem I am sure you will receive other suggestions, if it proves to be a patch problem they will refer it to Microsoft. If you want info about other virus protection programs, post a query in this newsgroup, there are many and most are free. The 'not' was NOT a typo. IMHO you're better off in Vista with nothing than with Norton or McAfee. Right now all I can recommend are NOD32 and Avast, the latter being free. -- Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE/WM Do not send mail. |

Well I have to respectfully disagree with the advice then. I have been using
Norton for years (Norton 2001 - Norton 2006) without issues (on this operating system and computer for 3 years) until last week after upgrading to ie 7 and other critical patches. I am running Windows XP pro SP2 not Vista. I do not believe an AV program that works fine after a reboot is the root cause for a problem that occurs after logging out and logging in again. Especially when the problem does not occur when switching identities and not logging out. I do believe the upgrade to ie 7 may have caused it and I am now investigating roll back options. Norton what (e.g., NAV, NSW, NIS)? Sandi's Installation Tips for IE7 http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html#pre-install [And I strongly recommend using http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.mspx as the installation source, not Automatic/Windows Update.] IEBlog : IE7 Installation and Anti-Malware Applications http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/200...lications.aspx Were NAV and any anti-spyware applications disabled *before* installing IE7? If running ZA Free, did you uninstall it before installing IE7? Was OE running when you installed IE7? -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) AumHa VSOP & Admin; DTS-L.org lpdf wrote: Well I have to respectfully disagree with the advice then.
