How do you re-open archived emails (dbx)?
I exported a bunch of OE6 email folders to .dbx files.
Now I'd like to re-import them in a fresh OE6. How do I do this? I tried the Import command but the Wizard presents me with a slew of confusing options. I'd like those .dbx files to re-integrate with OE6 in new individual folders. |

How did you do that? The messages are already in dbx files? Where are these dbx files now? Hi Reese,
Messages can only be exported to Microsoft Outlook or Exchange installed on the same PC. It does not work for exporting to a file that could be used with Outlook Express. Follow the links below to get a good idea of what's needed for your task. Hope it's not too late. OLEXP: How to Back Up and Recover Outlook Express Data http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;270670 More information and options Get OETool (www.oehelp.com/OETool/) and OEQB (www.oehelp.com/OEBackup/) and put them in the same directory. Then there is a button in OETool that will run OEQB and backup to 3 levels of redundancy just with a click of the button. Both are free. Hi,
I went to your link and did what it said... however after creating a new folder (ie, Archiv1) and searching for it, windows search came up empty. Then I searched for *.dbx and found nothing -- except the files I "backed up" (copied the dbx files onto a memory stick). How can that be? I mean I must have at least 50 newsgroups I interact with daily on OE... how can there be no dbx files found on my machine? Where the hell is OE keeping these msgs? As soon as I find THAT location, I can do something about bringing the old folders back. "Bruce Hagen" wrote in message ... I exported a bunch of OE6 email folders to .dbx files. How did you do that? Note that OE only mirrors what is on a news server. When a message is
deleted from the news server, it is deleted from OE unless you save it to a local folder. Location of your dbx files: Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Press the Tab key to highlight the folder location, then Ctrl+C. Close OE, then Start | Run | Ctrl+V will put the location in the box - Click OK and you'll see the OE files. Otherwise, write the location down and navigate to it in Windows Explorer. In WinXP, Win2K & Win2K3, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options Icon | View, or in Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options | View. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Reese" wrote in message ... See www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#4
You have to enable showing hidden files and you have to do an Advanced search that includes hidden files in the advanced options. steve "Reese" wrote in message ...
