Default deleted dbx folder and deleted items.dbx

Hello,
I hope someone can answer this question: I deleted one of my dbx folders,
and wondered if the emails would be in "deleted items.dbx". I know
individual emails would go in there, but could not find any information
dealing with what happens when a folder is deleted and if the emails go
into the deleted items.dbx.

The "deleted items.dbx" is about 35mb so there's lots of stuff, but
before I started wading thru all of that I thought I'd ask, here.

The very odd thing is that I was unable to find any reference to this
folder using tools like an old version of Encase which used to be free,
and similar other programs or data recovery trials - but I could find old
dbx folders which I'd deleted a year ago - any info on either or both of
these issues would be greatly appreciated.

If you deleted a folder, it is in Deleted Items, /unless/ you emptied
Deleted Items.

Is there a box with a + sign in front of Deleted Items? Open Deleted Items
and if the folder is there, just drag it out to Local Folders.

If the folder is not there, then you will need a tool to retrieve the
messages. If you have compacted since this happened, DBXtract will not work
and you will need DBXpress, a better program overall.

DBXpress: {much faster for large files}

Thanks, Bruce!

I looked at the screenshots of dbxpress, but it wasn't clear how to
retrieve a deleted dbx folder. If I purchase dbxpress would I point it
towards the deleted items.dbx or is there a mode to actually retrieve the
old folder?

Thanks, again,
Andrey

Let's clarify first. Did you delete the folder in OE in the folder tree, or
did you delete the dbx file for the folder in the message store?

The first would put the folder in Deleted Items. If you deleted the dbx
file, the folder would still exist in the folder tree, but would appear
empty.

Which describes your problem best?

I deleted the folder in oe, and then emptied the "deleted items" folder.
It's gone!!

If you deleted the folder in OE and then emptied the Deleted Items folder,
then you will need DBXtract, or DBXpress.

I only find a help file for DBXpress.

DBXpress Help:
http://www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/DBXpress.htm

In the future, may I suggest:

This freeware tool backs up everything in OE in seconds. Disregard what is
written in red.

Yes, I read that too, but again it wasn't clear to me about recovering a
deleted folder, but I guess the recover from drive will try to recover any
dbx it finds (as I previously mentioned - it's strange that using a program
like Encase I could find much older deleted dbx's, but not this one!).

Thanks for your help, Bruce!

DBXpress is not going to recover a folder. With the extract from disk
feature, it goes down to the disk clusters and analyzes every disk cluster
on the hard drive for messages. It cannot determine what folder the
messages were from. It just recovers whatever it finds.

Its the only program that does this and the only chance you have of
recovering at least some of the messages.
