Thanks for your reply mikey, I did a Google search prior to posting and it
didn't appear to turn up anything relevant to this particular error. "mikey" wrote: do a google search for the error code 800CCC08 "Dell Boy" Dell am wrote in message ... Is this a sudden, new problem or an ongoing one? IOW, have you /ever/ been
able to send mail from this mail account before? -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) AumHa VSOP & Admin; DTS-L.org Dell Boy wrote: I'm getting the following error when I try to send email: "An uknown error has occurred. Thanks Bruce and PA Bear.
Bruce, I found the info you've pointed to before I posted but it doesn't help. PA Bear, I've just set this up for a very elderly lady who has just signed up with PlusNet. She tells me that email from her previous provider did work. I've tried deleting the account from OE and then setting it up again but this didn't resolve the problem. The problem only occurs when a message is waiting to be sent, if there is nothing in the Outbox the Send/Receive goes through OK. "PA Bear" wrote: Is this a sudden, new problem or an ongoing one? CrystalBall© suggests that the error number is really 0x800CCC0B (letter B),
not 0x800CCC08 (numeral 8), so see this page: http://www.plus.net/support/email/em...oblems.shtml#7 1. Confirm that everything's set up EXACTLY as on this page: http://www.plus.net/support/email/se..._express.shtml Make certain that the full email address (Figure 4) is entered properly; e.g., with no spaces or anything before or after the address. 2. If you had to make changes, delete any messages currently in the Outbox. 3. Now test sending a new message. -- ~PA Bear Dell Boy wrote: Thanks Bruce and PA Bear. Bruce, I deleted the email account and set it up again but I haven't taken
any action for the Outbox or Sent Items folder being corrupted - do I delete them from the Maintenance (Store) Folder to resolve corruption? Messages are already being sent immediately and I've switched off virus scanning of outgoing email (although I suppose it's still possible that the security software installation may be corrupt). "Bruce Hagen" wrote: Is e-mail scanning turned off? It sounds like a corrupt Outbox, or Sent Items, but you already took care of that. What if you check Send Messages Immediately? Tools | Options | Send. Have you checked that the server settings are correct, especially whether or not SPA should be checked? http://www.plus.net/support/email/se..._express.shtml -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Dell Boy" Dell am wrote in message ... If you're using Norton, or McAfee, I would try getting rid of them and see
what happens. See PA Bear's latest reply first, but if still no joy: Do the following for the Outbox, and if the problem persists, repeat for Sent Items after you move any messages you wish to save to a local folder you create. Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Press the Tab key to highlight the folder location, then Ctrl+C. Close OE, then Start | Run | Ctrl+V will put the location in the box - Click OK and you'll see the OE files. Otherwise, write the location down and navigate to it in Windows Explorer. In WinXP, Win2K & Win2K3, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options Icon | View, or in Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options | View. With OE closed, find the DBX file for the folder in question {Outbox.dbx} and delete it. A new one will be created automatically when you open OE. General precautions for Outlook Express: Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They will eventually become corrupt. Create your own user defined folders for storing mail and move your mail to them. Empty Deleted Items folder regularly. Keep user created folders under 100MB, and Default folders as empty as is feasible. After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually while working *offline* and do it often. Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed. Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that eats up CPUs and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A/V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more, see: http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 In Tools | Options | Maintenance: Uncheck Compact messages in background and leave it unchecked. {N/A if running XP/SP2}. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Dell Boy" Dell am wrote in message ...
