Hi. I am receiving a lot of spam email from hong kong domains (*.hk) which I
would like to block/filter out from my inbox. I use Outlook Express 6 for Windows XP home but I don't know the exact procedure to follow so if anyone knows I would appreciate some help! Thanks, Nick Magos |

There's no good way to do that.
You can use with Blocked Sender List (which moves downloaded messages to the Deleted Items folder) or a message rule. You would have to match on ..hk (dot H K) OE doesn't use wild cards. It does a string match with the string appearing anywhere in the field. So matching on .hk might catch more than you intend. There's an alternate method, assuming the messages are not in English. I've found this Outlook Express Message Rule fairly effective with Asian spam Apply this rule after the message arrives Where the Subject line contains 'ä' or '±' or '¥' or 'À' or 'Ç' or '¤' or 'Æ' or 'Á' or 'Ò' or '¶' or '¯' or 'ª' Delete it and Stop processing more rules If it misses a message, I copy/paste another unique character from the subject into the rule. That characters have to be added one at a time. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "ahristosTelios" wrote in message ... Hi. The messages are either in english or german but they are actually delivered
as hyper-linked text images so I don't think a text search within the message body will prove fruitful. All these text images are hyperlinked to hong kong domains and you can verify that just by floating the mouse over the image! What if I create a message rule that filters and deletes all messages that match the string ".hk" without the wildcard in the from field? Is this possible in OE and will it prove effective? The problem here is that they use random names and random subjects so what can be blocked other than IP ranges? What IP ranges are they using and is it possible to block them from Norton Antivirus worm protection? Thanks for any help, Nick Magos "Michael Santovec" wrote: There's no good way to do that. You can have OE check the From for ".hk". It's just that it might match
more than you want since it will look for that 3 character string anywhere in the From, not just at the end of the e-mail address. But the.hk should be relatively safe. If you were going for something like ".co" you would also get all the ".com". You can't do any IP blocking in OE. I don't know what Norton is capable of. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "ahristosTelios" wrote in message ... I would say OE is quite limited in some regards with respect to blocking
unwanted email. True, message rules are somewhat effective but the "bad guys" are always a step ahead in circumventing security and capitalizing on legal shortcommings! I will try IP blocking with Norton but to do this I need to know what IP block IANA has given to all Hong Kong ISPs! Not the easiest of tasks I may add and I doubt its even worth it! It would be MUCH EASIER if OE accepted wildcards in its text search! Thanks for your help! "Michael Santovec" wrote: You can have OE check the From for ".hk".
